So its been a while since i put the original pictures up and since i finished this, The doors are now in and working well, they are 2.4m tall and use multipoint locks in both doors, without a dummy mullion, and also no cill, the door has a draught seal and it seats onto a stainless water bar...

    Accoya wood

Very good stuff, have to adopt special practices, as said no corrosive fittings/screws/pins, stain blocking primer, cant use cascamite/pva glues. You need a certificate from accys for the guarantee, and also from teknos for the 12 year coatings guarantee.... Just installed the jounery for a...

    Sash bay window restoration/half replacement

Hi andy, I always remove each section to a good point then use the piece i have removed as the template, as the fresh cut end is obviously good. If its completely rotten, its a case of measuring as accuratley as possible before removing, but they never match up as good as copying a sample...

    Sash bay window restoration/half replacement

Hi dericlen, correct yes, the joints were cut at an angle, from inside to out, to shed water away. i used a reference piece of wood the same width cut at the angle to guide the saw in. You can just make it out from some of the photos, but not easily.

    10.8v or 12v drill drivers......any recommendations?

Hi, I have the Bosch set, drill, impact, angle driver and saw, and there great little tools that are more than powerful enough for consistent screwing up to 50mm screws. They do larger but the batteries run out very quickly, I have however just bought the 2 festool drills c12 and t12+3 (came...

    Sash weights

if you have a 50mm box for the weights, generally, (Unless the sashes are abnormally wider than high) steel weights will work. Try the mighton calculator. The disadavntage is you need a long pocket to get the weight into the box compared to lead.

How to remove glass from a window

Are they beaded? The best way I have found is a fein multimeter, or Bosch GOP with the rigid scraper, run down the edge of the glass inside and out, pushing along at an angle. it takes about 15 seconds each side, no matter what sealant was used, butyl, dry seal, poly sulphide, silicone...

    Spray finishing

Kostello, Thanks for the input, I hadnt thought of that! Do one finishing coat pre assembly, put all the bars on, mask, spray and remove. No need to re mask each coat as there is already 2 coats on prior! How did the edges finish? the teknos and sikkens products are nigh on identical imo.
