I potentially Have some Georgian bonded on bar windows to spray finish soon, (well quite a few of them actually) and was wondering if anyone had ever attempted using a glass protective film, and spraying over the top of it once all the bars were attached, as opposed to spraying beofre assembly...

    finishing the edge of MDF

Either apply PvA or even better end grain sealer using a sponge/stiff brush, or paint with a suitable MDF primer after sanding to 180-240 grit, I used sayer lack primer and it was perfect after one coat and sanding.

Thanks For the kind word chaps! the timber i used was sapele, similar to meranti on camera, but a little more durable, the priming was done by the decorator! CHJ/ phil p- Making a new one would have been as easy in terms of technical ability required, however, when you factor in the cost of...

    Workshop extraction system

Hi guya and gals, I'm moving my workshop soon to a bit bigger space, roughly 10mx8.8m and I'm in need of some extractor ideas. I currently use a big dust extractor located in a different building to my workshop that sucks all the dust out but it also takes the hot air with it! This new...

    Sash bay window restoration/half replacement

Been on a job recently where the property owner had his windows made by another firm, and needed them fitting, I wouldn't normally do this work, as it almost always leads to there being complications, problems or things wrong, but as it was my new neighbour, I helped out. This is one of two...

Problems with Makita LXT batteries ?

How are you using the batteries? Lion technology is different, it might be worth reading up on how to treat them! Regular top ups are good, don't drain the battery right down then keep trying to use it to finish that last screw, it's not good for them,,, as soon as it stops, pull it out and...

    Winzer Wurth

I 'apparantley' get upto 70% discount on screws, TBH i cant buy them cheaper elsewhere, and there great!, heads are softer metal than others, but i was told they have a softer core, which allows the screw to bend/flex a little more instead of breaking.... never broken one, or had a failure, the...

    Wooden door surround

Thats exactly what you can do, Companies use it for pannels in exterior doors, Flb doors they use a single piece and v groove it to look like matchboarding.. The timber is modified to block the absorbtion of water at a molecular level, thats how i understand it anyway.

    Wooden door surround

You could also go right to the dpc without fear of rotting, negating the need for a stone cill either side.

    Wooden door surround

Why not buy some accoya, You wouldn't use an awful lot, and every piece is useable right into the centre of the timber. Could buy a sheet of tricoya for the panels, and machine to suit. It's incredibly easy to use, and they guarantee against rot for 50 years....plus coatings last a longer...

Felder Panel Saw K700s "curved" cuts problem???

You can check this by accurately measuring a piece of MDF before cutting at the ends and middle, then measure the two halves after the cut . If the offcuts are the same width along the length then its material tension issue as the saw is taking an equal cut. Also mark the faces of the material...

    DIY Windows and Building Regulations

It will have to comply with a centre pane u value figure (so the glass u value) and the window itself fit for purpose, safe, etc etc as its classed as a one off and built in a traditional manner. http://www.bwf.org.uk/news/question-of- ... l-doorsets

Felder Panel Saw K700s "curved" cuts problem???

Yes material tension I think Like said, check the piece that was fence side to see if its parallel, but no saw setting would allow the saw to cut more out of the middle than the ends or visa versa, without the blade wobbling or material being run in parallel to the blade.
