Once again a lovely piece of work. If I could pass comment (though I am not sure its warrented) I think it would have been nice for the internal part of the box to be in a more mundane timber to really highlight the beautiful spalting. Owen

Think I have to say planer thicknesser, It saves so much work. I always by rough sawn and planing it all by hand was enjoyable but crippling. Its much easier to cut stuff by hand when the starting stock is square. Plus the cost is soon saved when you think how much cheaper rough sawn timber is...

I have noticed a few craft shops at stately homes and garden centres have a few pieces. I imagine they take a cut for selling it but the price is set by the maker and the item is left at risk in the shop. I would think smaller shops would take a punt if there was no risk or outlay to themselves...

I have been trimming down the ends of some boards to slot in a housing I have cut into a bookcase. I have used a record 044 to cut cross grain with the line heavily knifed to prevent tear out. This obvisually is workable but less than ideal. My question is, which plane is best utilsed for this...

Really impressed with that. Its a really attractive combination of timber. It reminds me of San Francisco. Its has a European and oriental flavour to it. Most pleasant. Owen
