    I found that when I tried woodcarving, I mainly ended up hand carving. I stopped while I could still count up to ten without taking my socks off.

    Just thought I’d say that I pulled the trigger on the Dewalt 745 yesterday when I saw ebay had 15% off stuff from FFX. Managed to get it for £395 delivered.

    Cheers Custard. The plank is 2” thick, so I thought the chamfers would lighten it visually, and physically.

    Curves

    Or a chisel. Spokeshaves are great for curves (especially cylindrical curves e.g. baseball bat), but you will struggle to produce a tight concave radius. Chisels (bevel Down) are easier to control.

    made a low oak bench for the hallway to sit on while putting my shoes on. All done with hand tools, now I have biceps like popeye. Legs would have been so much easier if I had a lathe.

    Haven’t tried it, but plastic drinks bottles shrink when you heat them up. You could try cutting a sleeve from a suitable bottle and wafting a heat gun over it.

    Injection moulding tools are very expensive (circa £10k+) as they have to withstand very high pressures as the thermoplastic is injected.     Space is the main limitation most of us hobbyists work with. Track saw isn’t as quick or convenient as a table saw, but it wins on footprint.

    I’ve dismantled a few old pianos. The frame is usually made from good quartersawn slow grown wood, and there are other good quality timbers that are salvageable too. They are buggers to take apart though.
