Businesses close, old blokes become infirm or die, young blokes have kids or get divorced. It’s the circle of life ;-)

It strikes me that forming the letters from 20A copper wire would be easier and then tack welding it to a steel plate? No experience of this and it would be a rough and ready result at best, just trying to think through the problem. Maybe you can get steel wire of a similar gauge somewhere?

    Skip Find - Wood ID

The left one looks like sapele to me. Could the right one be poplar/tulip?

    Elliptical shelves WIP

Just wanted to report back on the acoustic properties of the shelves. I installed the shelves on the blank wall opposite my stereo and it has had a marked effect on the acoustics. The room was quite lively (not helped by having guitars hanging on the wall), but the shelves have really cut down...

    Elliptical shelves WIP

Ok, Royal wedding so it’s a good day to spend time in the shed. Prototyped a fixing system I’m happy to try. Going with my initial idea of mini French cleats on the verticals which should be easy to rough out accurately with my domino, then shape with a chisel and fettle to level. Hopefully...

    Stick blender for paint

Actually the best self cleaning paints have a satin finish based on similar morphology to the lotus flower. Hydrophobic fibres sticking up from the surface don’t allow dirty water to wet the surface and the dirt is shed immediately. Not sure if there are commercial products available now, but we...

Help. Ruined new shed floor with creosote?

Sit in your shed and breathe deeply. The volatile components of the creosote will be filtered out by your lungs. :D

    Stick blender for paint

The stick blenders are high shear and as such wont be suitable for waterborne paints. The shear can flocculate the emulsion resin and turn it into cottage cheese. It’s not a problem for solventborne paint, but it’s a bit over the top. In the paint industry we use shakers like they have in the...

    Do birds "play"???

Those bugs are called cockchafers around here...which incidentally is also an injury you can pick up from naked woodworking.

Is it safe to burn Tanalised wood?

I’m not an expert, but I don’t believe arsenic is used in tanalising any more. Seems they are using copper triazole which explains the green staining around knot holes.
