Should I fancy a fancy wood burner for work and play?

"I think the days of wood fired stoves are numbered in the UK. I expect them to be banned before long because of the health concerns." Or so they (as in not us) have us over a barrel for purchasing their energy/heating at a price they can determine?". I'm not given to conspiracy theories and I'm...

    Hire a Micro Digger?

Lots of sensible comments above and yes, you will get the idea quite quickly. Well at least I sort of did when I purchased a towable Powerfab digger. The best advice I can give, and it was given to me years ago when I first started using small diggers, is to not have anyone within reach if you...

    Queen Elizabeth has passed away.

ha ha. Yes the informality of Aussie speech does sometimes seem at odds with Brits. That and the massive overuse of "awesome" make me chuckle and grimace in equal measures lol. I had an Aussie visitor that with a completely straight face said in a slow Aussie drawl, "there's more than one way of...

    Queen Elizabeth has passed away.

The BLM movement has never said that Black lives are more important than other lives. It is a reminder that Black lives do actually matter as in the US and here in the Dis-United Kingdom, cultural norms and values, and the actions of both states would suggest that they're not considered to...

    Queen Elizabeth has passed away.

But still a very small percentage of the 67 million + that live in the UK currently. NOT a comment either way on the monarchy. Can't be bothered either way either as it makes no difference to the issues I'm interested in solving in the Dis-United Kingdom. Things like child-poverty, the fact that...

The language is mutating (and always has done)

So are you suggesting that there should just be one language for the world, and that that language should be English? I'm not sure that's what you mean, but merely wondering. Diolch.

    Adult tricycles

I own a BRA CV3, currently mothballed, which has a two at the front layout and front-wheel drive. Sticks to the road like glue and scares boy racers around the bends. (image not my car

What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

Wow! So impressed compared to our brewing bucket sitting in a plywood box with a loo seat on top of it all. That system of yours looks almost good enough to be considered against the hassle of fitting a domestic sewerage treatment plant (no new fitting of septic tanks allowed where I live). Only...

What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

Not if you **** in a bucket as we do. I mean for those of a delicate nature, "we use homemade composting toilets". The contents of said buckets gets covered in horse ****, left for a year or so and the conglomerate **** is then fed to my tree saplings. Not sure how much energy I'm saving though...

Party wall agreement with crazy neighbour and surveyor

Will the access to Neighbouring Land Act 1992 provide possible solutions? I haven't looked at it for years, but seem to remember it gives right over a neighbour's land if access is required to maintain and repair your own land. Access to Neighbouring Land Act 1992

    Anyone know anything about tortoises?

Mine loved buttercup flowers, so much so that it was named as per the flower. It ran away when we (inc. Buttercup) went on a family holiday in a caravan in a farmer's field. It climbed out of the little run we'd take for it.

    DIY wind turbine....

No knowledge of this kind of thing so this is just for interest: I made a 12v charger out of a Yugo coolant fan and housing bolted to a tripod of long thinnish pine trunks, with the wiring going through a diode and some other stuff on a small board in a film canister (that part done by a...

    Bitumen felt roofing washers HELP!!!!!!

"Not sure I it's purpose over regular coach bolts?" Apologies, I should have mentioned that I drill through the timber at 90 degrees, so if using a 7"x2", it goes through the 2". The coach bolt poked through the hole picks up the J hook which, pokes up through the corrugated sheet with bitumen...

    Bitumen felt roofing washers HELP!!!!!!

Hi all. Just going crazy trying to find square or diamond bitumen roofing washers that fit under the square/diamond curved washers when fixing he sheets down. I've always been able to get them from roofing supply shops/websites, but I've drawn a blank so far. The trouble is, I don't know what...

How to cut a slate slab (and how difficult is it)?

I do as it happens. Slate is a good material for top end hi fi. Those slate speaker cabinets I mentioned were HUUUUUgely expensive but apparently (and I've not listened to them myself) 'off the scale wonderful. Makes sense really for floor mounted speakers. Inigo Jones in North Wales do some...

How to cut a slate slab (and how difficult is it)?

I used an irregular piece of Welsh slate with one straight edge into a hearth and needed to cut out a section where the grate stuck out. over 3" thick and I managed with a mechanical hacksaw blade. You can even use a cheap cross-cut wood saw. I live in North Wales's former slate quarrying area...

Squirrels. Love ‘em or hate ‘em?

Hands off our reds! lol. Water is now privatised and in Wales is 99% is supplied and managed by a not for profit org owned by us, (Dwr Cymru). However, we don't own the rain, but we'll keep going to capel to ask for ;the Almighty's help with that. He/she's definitely been generous thus far...

Squirrels. Love ‘em or hate ‘em?

Q "Apparently, you are not now even supposed to release them" Thanks for the interesting link. However, the most interesting part of it is this: "Any companion animal of a listed species - that was kept before it was included on the EU list - may continue to be kept in secure accommodation, as...
