MFT style cutting / assembly bench

I have been using an eBay special clone of the MFT perforated top, but it's wearing out & I'm after a few more features now that I've used it a bit & know what's useful to me & what isn't. I'm about to build a new workbench based on a Ron Paulk / Holzwerken / MFT mashup. I have the Plywood &...

    Old Planer thicknesser. Advice needed.

Thank you for all your advice. It's very much appreciated & really helps me to make a decision that I'm less likely to regret. I would love to have seperates, but I'm using somebody elses workspace so a combination machine would be preferable. Having said that the old Wadkin BFT's do look like a...

    Old Planer thicknesser. Advice needed.

I have been trying to decide what to replace my recently deceased Woodstar PT with something a bit heavier duty. After having looked at a few newer machines I have decided to go with something British & something Cast Iron. I had initially wanted to go with 240V, but have quickly realised that...

    Squaring up MDF sheets

Tracksaw & either a large MFT table , if you have the space, or a bit of maths (Pythagoras), if you don't. Then you can make/buy paralell guides to make the setup useful for rip cuts or a smaller MFT table which can be setup to allow smaller but repeatable cuts. Don't ever assume a sheet of...

    Marples plane dating?

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. There is some great information there, particularly the catalogue & the tip on the Hawley Collection, which I have never heard of! It looks like most of the metal Marples planes were made between the 30's & the 60's. The fact that some have black...

    Marples plane dating?

I think the hand plane bug is beginning to bite... I initially bought a few old planes of various makes off eBay & learned to clean, sharpen & use them. Of all the planes I have I feel the Marples planes are that little bit nicer to use. Most of these are red, but I have one number 4 that has...

    Freebie anyone?

Pete, You have PM. Colin, Agreed! I would suspect you would have better luck sourcing second hand hens teeth, which is partly why mine's not getting repaired. If mine can be used to somebody's benefit or to help another machine live a little longer then that's all good!

    Freebie anyone?

Steve, It's a PT 106. Agreed it's not the best, but it does (well it did) get the job done. That's why I'm not bothering to fix it & am getting something a bit beefier to replace it. You're welcome to any bits you want off it, providing nobody comes & takes the whole thing away by the Weekend.

    Freebie anyone?

There's been some interest in this, but nothing firm yet. It's taking up space in the workshop, so if there's no takers by the weekend It'll be going in the skip. Although it's not the greatest machine there are still a lot of good parts on it which somebody might find useful?

Wrong size pulley on planer - any advice?

Mildly terrifying is one way of putting it! I am after a planer thicknesser too & I have discounted anything from Axminster. There seem to be just too many tales of new machines being delivered with niggles/faults, which Axminster seem to be very good at sorting, to their credit. It just...

    Freebie anyone?

I can't post in the for sale section, as I haven't got enough posts yet & I don't want to spam other peoples' posts just to get above 20. Anyhow, my Woodstar planer thicknesser has decided to kill its feed gears (which look like pot metal). It's not worth repairing it & I plan to replace it with...

Essential track saw accessories (e.g. for Festool TS55)

I like the look of the Axi clamps - until I saw the price. Maybe I'm getting to be a tool snob, but I would rather have the Bessey versions, to match my existing clamps... www.besseytools.co.uk/bessey-product-ra ... andle.html

Essential track saw accessories (e.g. for Festool TS55)

I have to say that I agree with everything Wuffles has said above (also from personal experience). I have the Mafell MT55 & am just about to buy a couple of decent steel rulers (30cm & 100cm) & some ruler stops. It's a quick, easy & accurate setup. I bought a CNC Festool style Perforated top...

    Selling Entire Workshop

As with Arron, I'm also looking to buy decent machinery as I too am starting up.

Old vs new woodwork machinery. What's your opinion?

Thank you everybody for taking the time to reply. Clearly older machinery is the way to go as these machines do seem to hold up well & work as well if not better than some of the newer stuff. I am more than happy to take the time to look for decent examples & then spend time setting them up -...

Old vs new woodwork machinery. What's your opinion?

I am starting to think about buying some decent machinery as I get more into my woodworking & begin to realise what I need to progress. At present I'm thinking about a table/cabinet saw & a decent planer thicknesser. I should also say at this point that I am very much an amateur, but my Military...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

I am fairly new to the forum & woodworking in general. I am now in the fortunate position where I have been able to borrow a workspace & begin to make something. I appreciate that none of what I have made is anywhere near the level of most of what I see on this site, but we all have to start...

    Router table, buy or build?

I am also interested in building a router table & was wondering if anybody has any links to a good one. I know there are loads out there, I'm just trying to get a feel for which ones are good (or bad)?
