Looking for some info: Startrite saw

I always regretted selling my Startrite TA165 saw & have been looking for a small table saw to replace it. So when a Startrite tilting table saw came up on eBay recently I put in what I thought was a cheeky bid & ended up winning it for £56. Considering what £56 buys you in terms of decent...

    Angled face frame without tablesaw

I recently made a corner TV cabinet & used the following method to glue up & 'clamp' the 45 degree (well 2 x 22.5 degree corners): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvxLCfnw4YQ I have to say I was sceptical about the whole tape thing & not using any form of biscuits, splines, domino's etc...

    Practical tips for beginners.

Make sure all your rulers, tape measures etc read the same! I always thought all tape measures were accurate. Wrong. Took me ages, during a recent project, to suss out why things weren't fitting together. Then I had a lightbulb moment & tested all my tape measures & found out one of them was...

    Workshop Cleanliness

From my (limited) personal experience: A vac with a built in socket that switches the vac on/off automatically when the tool operates is a massive advantage. I would happily pay extra to get a vac with this! The higher the filtration the better, as far as I'm concerned, although maybe not quite...

    Table saw buying advice

If you decide to go with a table saw over a track saw I am selling my Startrite TA165. I find I'm erring towards the tracksaw more & I'm borrowing the Father in laws' garage as a work space, so I cannot justify the space taken by the table saw. I'm in Somerset.

What did you do in your workshop today ?

Tried a new tactic on a project that has been ongoing for far too long - partly because I just couldn't suss out how to make a 45 degree corner. Corners came out at 44.9 degrees & look OK, so I'll take that! I'm learning that woodworking is about the correct techniques applied in the correct...

Best place / price to get a proedge

I live 5 minutes from Yandles, so no prizes for guessing where I'll be next weekend. Happy to pick one up for you if they do a decent show price. You can collect or I can post it to you.

    Little router mods

I have Neutrik powercon true 1 cords on all my tools as an alternative to the Festool plug it cables. The only tool this doesn't currently work on is my Domino (my only Festool tool) - which I plan to mod to a Neutrik because I think they're a better connector. Wouldn't be without them now!

    ELU Router Questions

I may have a spare turret with the adjusters (I have a box of spare Elu bits, which I knew would be handy one day). I will not be home until Friday, but if you can wait until then I'll have a look & let you know. You're welcome to them for the cost of postage. As an aside I cannot believe the...

    Startrite TA 175 Table Saw

No problems! I have a spare motor for my TA165 sitting around at work, but I suspect it's exactly the same as it's also 1.1Kw. I won't be able to get any photo's until tomorrow evening, but I'll Post some up As soon as I can.

Huge Brass Foot Pump, The Kismet Duplex Garage

I bought an old Kismet lorry with a Renrut valve a few years ago & it's brilliant. I've also got a couple of Dunlops (one of which is in its original box). I can't tolerate tat that isn't fit for purpose, which is the real appeal of older stuff for me. I was amazed that there are still people...

    Planer thicknesser

I recently bought a used Sedgwick PT, which is a great machine to use & I suspect it will out last me! It's not physically a huge amount bigger than the PT 260, in fact it's almost identical to the bigger Record PT (I can't remember the model number). The Sedgwick is very heavy, I will admit...

Plunge saw festool or makita but which

Someone will be along in a minute to tell you to buy the Mafell mt55 - start saving... :) Er OK, Get the Mafell. Only problem with mine is that when the cuts aren't quite right I know it's more my fault than the saw. When I bought mine I also loked at the Festool, which also looks like a good...

    Trend Combination Router Base

Mike, Where did you get the part threaded rods you're using on your jig? I spent hours looking for something similar the other night to make something essentially the same as you've made, but I couldn't find anything suitable.

Single Garage Workshop - Table Saw dilema...

I am using a single garage as a workshop too. When I say using I mean borrowing the Father in law's! Fortunately he was a carpenter his whole life, so he's very much on side! With regards to a table saw I bought one like this one, which is currently on ebay: 302186962564 I live near Axminster &...

What did you do in your workshop today ?

Finally got to clean, lube & put some Oak planks through my new (second hand) Sedgwick PT. It's just a little bit better than the Woodstar I was using before!!

    Table saw top

I have a cast Iron top & fence from a Startrite TA165 table saw lying around that you can have for cheap if that's any use? There may be some way of grafting your saw under the cast top & you then get a fence that works with it. I bought a saw, which it turns out had a repaired arbour, so...
