    Tripod table

Steve, How would the mortising jig work on a round column? Does it need to run on it's own jig mounted over the column on a lathe? Or could I take that 'hexigoning' approach to provide a flat? I'd already convinced myself that I wouldn't be scribing the legs to the column, - small flats are...

    Tripod table

I've had a commission from a very demanding client (MiL  ) to make a tripod oval table. Dimensions to be about 20" wide by 20" high. This type of thing Trying to work out out to fix the legs in position. I remember watching a Norm show ages ago where he did a similar thing using...

Thicknesser accuracy??? - Now with Pics

Mark, - please believe I'm in no way having a pop at you doing what you're doing and perhaps I should have started a separate thread. It's not a curse so much as a way of life! I do however continually wonder why some people talk about woodwork in almost engineering tolerances when it is after...

Thicknesser accuracy??? - Now with Pics

As the owner of the same machine an interesting read (well, - most of it!). Haven't yet put much through the thicknesser so will be measuring when I do with this in mind. Your photo's much anticipated Mark as I may need to consider similar work depending on the results. This also leads me to...

    Yandles oak + moisture meter

HC, All you appear to be doing there is taking a reading from the surface. You'll need to push those prongs in a bit further to get a truly representative reading.

    Timber length through a PT

I don't think you've got a problem at all. If you didn't press down on the bow by the time you finished taking the bow out of 9mm timber you'd have 1mm thick timber!! Using almost the same kit I never overcame similar issues. Can you still use the wood with clever jointing? Or having it...

    dovetail/tenon jig etc.

Yep - fantastic bit of kit. Couldn't believe how tight he made dovetails in such a short space of time.

    P & T combination or separates

Maybe I'm the other end of the scale as I've just gone from separates (admittedly small ones) to a combined machine (AW106PT2). Given me much more space and the size of the planer bed is far superior to what I had. Hell of a lot quieter ae well! :D (Anyone wanna buy a thicknesser? or a...

    dovetail/tenon jig etc.

DW, If you're considering hand cutting I can highly recommend Dave Barron's (I think that's his name) little jig. £20 at Yandles and I can't believe how easy it makes hand cutting. I'd virtually given up on hand cutting ('cos I was crap  ) but this jig makes me want to go and play at...

    Woodpecker or Jessum

I suspect the lift will end up being sold on it's own. On the basis that they flog the router for £310 and the normal package price is £477 then the lift should be about £167 (see what I did there! :D ). I've fancied the woodpecker for a while as it looses little off the height of a cutter...

    My GCSE Resistant Materials Piece..

Cracking bit of work! Makes me feel that not all D&T GCSE courses don't lead to any skills. My kids learnt the square root of next to nothing (much to my dispair). Still have fond memories of my old wood work teacher and still use most of the skills he taught (beat!) into me many years ago...

Now that does make sense. Thanks.

    Adjustable outfeed table - why?

I've finally found the time to play with my new axminster p/t and it took a wee while to figure out the adjustment on the outfeed side was leaving 'snipe'. Fairly simple to remedy but left me wondering what use that particular adjustment is? I can't think of a single reason why you'd need to...

Oak Workbench project - from DOOR to SAW!

Nice job, - looks really good. I too really enjoy the process of recycling old timber into something new. I currently have some timber from old fire station doors (teak) and at some point in time will be turning that into something (hopefully) useful.

    Most expensive shellac ever?!!

Two issues: Firstly, it's her car and she agreed to it :D Secondly, it's really only equivalent to 3 10 stone adults in the back which it's probably designed for. No ill effects so far!!

    Most expensive shellac ever?!!

Following advice from the finishing forum I set off to Axminster this morning to purchase some shellac for the picture frames I'm in the process of putting together. A quick £7 ish and away we go!! Now I've been considering a new P/T for some time (previous posts asking for advice etc.) but...
