    Diamond stones

What are the collectives thoughts on the 'best' diamond stones out there? I'm thinking of changing from water stones to diamond due to some set up and storage issues.

best thing for large sheets of melamine

I didn't either, - then I got one! I have a beefy table saw with sliding table but with a large job converting 8 x 4 sheets the table saw would frankly have been dangerous and heaven knows what state my back would have been in afterwards. With the investment of a couple of hours making a set...

    Ebay - again!

OK Gents. Thanks for the advice, - 3 days it is!

    Ebay - again!

How long do you leave it from end of an auction where you've sold something to offering a second chance? Over 24 hours since I 'sold' something and no response from 'winner'. Ebay say they send a reminder about payment after 3 days but this seems overly generous to me. I'm thinking 48 hours...

    Axminster £1 delivery

I was surprised to find them the cheapest for a new Festool router and when I picked it up I queried why they were suddenly cheaper than anywhere else I'd looked online. Was informed that they have made a conscience pricing decision to make themselves more competitive. Hope it continues!

    Water based over oil based

Thanks everybody. Roger, - Smith & Rodgers actually have some solvent based floor varnish! I'll be ordering some soonest. Dusty, - thanks for the tip, I'll give them a bell if I get stuck. Interestingly conflicting advice from manufacturers. Morrells basically say strip back to bare wood and...

    Water based over oil based

Thanks Richard. As you might guess I'm not really in to shellac for the floor. I have emailed Ronseal and waiting for a reply. All the websites I've looked at say if sanded down it should be OK but I'd like something a bit more defiinative! If all else fails I think I'll take a chance and just...

    Water based over oil based

I have a floor to refinish that I originally used oil based on. I now have to refinish and have a couple of bare areas where built in furniture has been removed. The floor is generally in good condition and will be well sanded before refinishing. I'm struggling to find an oil based floor...

    Raising the dead ....

Mmmmm....... I tried the email complaint process a couple of times and have so far received absolutely zero response. I do intend to try again and may raise it further if I have to. As I'm now technically in arrears due to their incompetence I won't let it rest easily   Steve...

    Raising the dead ....

Co-Op Energy. There are alternative spellings but the forum doesn't like them!

    Raising the dead ....

or 'how to contact an energy company' Dear God these systems and processes are ridiculous! I went to an online account because they were cheaper and now it appears 5 months worth of direct debits have just gone 'missing'. 27 minutes for a phone to be answered!!!! :evil...

    'Convertible' Bed?

I've just finished a suite of bedroom furniture and we're now thinking about a matching bed. We'd like a king size and we have the room but we're aware of downsizing in a couple of years and we may need to change the bed. I've been looking at hardware and designs and was wondering if by using...

Training as an electrician, advice please.

No Skills, - have you researched all the possible funding that might be available to help you out? It's been a long time since I was involved in training (generally not electrical) but there used to be quite a lot of smallish grants etc. available. It can be a real pain tracking some of them...

Burning pallets in a wood burner?

Find that hard to believe although you guys burn more wood than we do. Can you point towards the 'proven' bit? I 'wood' ( =P~ ) have thought that as long as you don't burn it exclusively there wouldn't be an issue? I do burn treated wood (not masses) and will continue to do so.

Thank you all - M4 it is :D

    Thread Confusion

This may well be a silly question but please bear with me on this as I just don't know the answer! I was just about to press the 'buy now' button for some M4 thread inserts (see separate thread) for door knobs when I suddenly wondered what the diameter of my knob screws (really?! :D ) was...

    Supporting work on a Bandsaw

I love Steve's solution. I suspect with a well waxed top that'll eliminate the 'bias' effect if the roller isn't exactly at 90 degrees (as mentioned by others). By the way I use rollers for all my support work! Soon to be rollers with catcher plates :D

    Threaded inserts

I wouldn't normally use them either but this is high use bits of kit and because over the life time of the furniture I feel that woodscrews will eventually pull out/loosen.

    Threaded inserts

Thanks gents, - useful leads. Marcros, - looking for quite a lot smaller than that (think smallish cupboard door knobs).
