    Beech Woodwork benches for Sale

I have looked at one of these in the Axminster showroom. Although Beech they are not particularly strong nor heavy for chopping mortices or serious furniture manufacture. If you make boxes or want a light duty bench then they are better than a workmate, but there is a reason the Sjoberg benches...

    Any cyclists here?

Good stuff! If you get pins and needles from too much weight on your hands then I can recommend using a pair of cycling gloves - go for ones with padding or gel in the palm to reduce vibration. They really helped me. Steve.

    Any cyclists here?

Congratulations - glad you are happy with you purchases :D Lycra is indeed optional, but if you get a pair of lycra shorts with a chamois insert they will make that seat a bit more bearable on anything over an hour or so's ride. Wear them under a pair of normal shorts or track suit trousers...

    Any cyclists here?

Disc brakes are a mountain bike phenomenon that are coming more and more onto hybrid bikes. While their stopping power is good, they are more complicated to run, particularly if they are the hydraulic type (although in your budget that will not be a problem). Personally I have always shied away...

    Any cyclists here?

These days you cannot size a bike without sitting on it. Frame geometry varies radically with make and style and you simply cannot say 58cm is what I need for example. You should also try a test ride if at all possible, even if its only round a carpark. Regarding upgrading, if you only have...

    Any cyclists here?

Yup, just got myself a new specialized sirrus and am doing a 50 mile cycle ride on Sunday :D First thing you need to decide is what you think you mean by hybrid. This is a huge range between drop bar carbon race bikes at one end and full on double suspension at the other. Anything in between...

Willies chocholate revolution, Chasing the dream

Afraid to say I found the bloke intensely annoying and tuned it out (SWMBO watched it but it was background noise to me). Not sure whether it was his attitude of his hairstyle but he just didnt click for me - sorry. Steve.

    WOODWORKING AND POWER TOOL SHOW

So are you asking us to demonstrate? Asking us to participate? Asking us to visit? Or just making use of the forum for free advertising? Your post is unfortunately neither informative nor particularly explanatory in its current form. Steve.

'Greenies' .. The "Prius Polluter" truths

Peer review means that it has been reviewed by your peers or contempories in the field. They are supposed to ensure scientific methodolgy is correct and appropriate and that any claims you make are valid based on your methodology. It doesnt mean it is correct as such, but that the...

'Greenies' .. The "Prius Polluter" truths

You don't seem to get my point Jenx and I have no wish to take this into a slanging match. However... I didn't single him out, you did. You said we shouldn't dismiss the views of such a credible individual. I merely asked why not and stated that credible does not mean the same thing as right...

'Greenies' .. The "Prius Polluter" truths

Jenx wrote: Why? In particular why is he credible? And even if he is credible, why should we believe him? I take it you are using the term credible to mean the same thing as believeable - if not please explain your interpretation of the term. Being credible is not the same as being right. I...

'Greenies' .. The "Prius Polluter" truths

For Gill and other interested parties, try the link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez This is a scientific database of peer reviewed published scientific papers. It is primarily science based rather than humanities based but has over 7800 hits for a search of 'climate change' and 5000 for...

I'm new to DIY need REALLY basic help

You have been caught by our spam trap - a couple more posts and your pictures should appear. Wthout them I am afraid I am finding it a little difficult to envisage what you are trying to do. However, the usual way to cut a rabbet is with a router and straight bit cutter, or you could use a...

Plagarism - Can I do anything about it

First course of action should be a strongly worded letter stating you require an apology, immediate withdrawl of their catalogue and threatening to seek legal advice if they do not comply within 14 days. There is no excuse for it, and I would go ballistic if it happened to me. The second course...

    Confused By Choice

For around the £100 mark the SIP gets good reviews, or you could look for something on ebay. I would try and get one that takes pinless blades if at all possible, since this will enable you to make finer cuts - as you say you want to cut puzzles this will be pretty much essential. Variable speed...

    Pointing up slabs

I bought the Axminster one last year as I was laying a patio - it was absolutely pants. Nozzle blocked every 5 seconds and the amount of force required to eject the mortar was huge. You are supposed to have a wet mix and put in some plasticiser to make it flow but personally I found this didn't...

MK Electric 13 amp socket advice needed.

MK is not a cr@p make so you shouldn't be having the problems you suggest. Is it simply the case that you are too close to the wall due to the shortness of the cable inside the box to be able to angle the faceplate sufficiently to get a good view of what you are doing? Steve.
