    Blades???

Looks like one to me - most scrollsaw blades are 5" in length, which is close to 130mm. Steve.

    Nut-cracker puzzle !!

Heat the brass crusher disc and see if that releases it? If it was put on hot and then allowed to cool and contract onto the threaded spindle you would struggle to remove it cold. To repair the mechanism why not just araldite (other glues are available TM) the wooden handle to the top of the...

    Bank holiday weekend project

Thanks guys. Chris - do you havea particular product you would recommend? There is a slight fall on the deck to eliminate surface water but agree that something may be needed in the winter months. Studders, Brendan - I am with you on this one but SWMBO is against. Just the other side of the...

    Bank holiday weekend project

Hi Mailman - the uprights are not actually fixed to the boundary wall. As each is 4 inches square they are sitting on the concrete floor, and believe me they will not be moving the weight they are. The deck rails are screwed to them which also gives extra stability - there is no movement in them...

    Bank holiday weekend project

Aye, the cross the wall by about 4". We have a lovely neighbour who I spoke to when I dry fitted the first bay before screwing it all together and she was more than happy with it. Thinks its wonderful and cannot wait to see roses growing up it. I offered then to trim the cross members back to...

    Bank holiday weekend project

Since I got on so well yesterday, took the morning off to play squash. Then started on the decking with a little help: They soon got fed up with helping Daddy and decided I wqs building them a climbing frame  Before my youngest son decided he wanted my drill and I couldn't have it...

    Is it just me..?

Yup, just you - I usually hold the pot of paint in my other hand, not going to ask how you hold yours, clever ****! Steve.

    Bank holiday weekend project

So there I was, reading the Axminster catalogue while SWMBO was watching ground farce on the TV and giving me a running commentary while she did so (why do women do that - if I was interested I would watch it!). So not really listening just doing the usual 'hmmmn' and 'uh huh' and 'yes dear' at...

Builder starting small extension, will I regret it

Ah, got you. I did indeed think they came out from the house. I still think you can put a joist from the house wall out down the length of the 4x3 wall plate. If you put it on the outside and make it taller (top to bottom) than the wall plate you can also screw through it and into the end of the...

Builder starting small extension, will I regret it

Given that you have a triple joist on the new roof just next to your window without any support below it, why are you now concerned with removing the window from below the old joist and leaving a joist as the roof support? If it really concerns you, simply add a second joist alongside it like...

    Air brush query

Thanks for the heads up Brad, nothing showing on their website but I will have a look next time I am in there. Steve.

    Please recommend a road bike?

Yup, for something in excess of 5 grand you too can ride the bike Lance rode in the TDF. Actually, its a general rule that any bike in the TDF can be bought by joe public (or at least that section of it with alot of money anyway). Tis a good idea and makes the sport more 'real' to the fans I...

    Air brush query

Thanks guys, but I think lugging a spare tyre (other than the one round my waist) up and down the cellar steps is going to be abit more of a faff than I wanted  Payday today - going to order a baby compressor and brush as linked above and see how I get on. Steve.

    Air brush query

Thanks Steve. Using the word propellant rather than aerosol was a bit more productive  I only want to try it out and see how it goes so since, as you suggest, propellant is expensive at approx £8 a can I am tempted to consider a £45 punt on the one at the top of this page...

    Please recommend a road bike?

One word.... lycra! Padded shorts are a must for anything over about 10 miles, even if - like me - you wear them under a pair of track suit trousers so nobody can see! Nice looking bike, should do you well :D Steve

    Air brush query

Have done a forum search but nothing seemed to match.... If I wanted to try an airbrush for paint effects, do I have to spend £70 or more on a compressor as well or are there ones that run off a can of compressed air? Brushes themselves do not seem to be very expensive but for a trial I dont...

    Compound Cutting For Beginners

Thanks Gill :D The fish puzzle is from a Richard Greenslade pattern - I have a couple of other patterns apart from this one (pelican and another bird from memory) but they are difficult to find. Wish he would publish a book! He did do a piece in SSW a year or so ago and I really like his work...
