£20 for a Delta saw Yes or no?

For a general blade, start with a #5. This is fine enough to give you a decent cut and ability to do curves, but not so fine that it will break every 5 seconds. The thicker the blade the easier it is to saw to a line since it will wander far less. I would order a pack of #3, #5 and #7 to give...

    Laminating a hardwood worktop [completed]

Very nice! Not a bad price either looking at the website you got the worktop from. They also do a 4M length - was there any reason you only went for 3M? That has given me some food for thought as I am idly (still!) thinking of a workbench and you top looks a good design. How do you plan to fit a...

£20 for a Delta saw Yes or no?

Yup go for it - a saw doesn't get 'well used' if it doesn't work very well, and you will make the £20 back on e-bay no trouble. Just check the plug if it is an old French machine :D Steve

    Anglo Saxon Treasure Hoard

Is it definately fretwork though? Surely much easier to pour molten gold into a carved form with raised panels? Sawing creates alot of swarf which, if gold would be wasteful - even by todays standards, let alone Anglo-Saxon times. Steve.

    wii docking station

I dont have a docking station, just shove new batteries in as needed. Unless you are using it alot this is not that often - witha 6 year old and a 3 year old (and me 8-[ ) its probably about once every three months. Thats from weekend useage and occasional weekday play. A teenager may well get...

    Wooden clocks part 2!

I have to admit that I have had the plans for years, but never got round to building one  I got them from websites but have no idea which ones as it was so long ago - if I can find them I will have a look for you. Regarding Birch ply, the laminations are birch all the way through, not...

    Wooden clocks part 2!

Birch ply is more common than you think, but most suppliers will need to order it for you. Build centre, alsford timber and Jewsons can all get it, any local timber yard should stock it. Online suppliers include south london hardwoods and james latham, both of whom will post uk wide but may be...

Mystery Tour: Kitchen Cabinet Doors any use?

Gut feeling is that you might shift them as a job lot on e-bay, but not for much money. Given the amount of clearing and sorting you seem to have to do I wouldnt spend an awful lot of time dismantling the doors into surrounds and panels personally. Course if you come across solid oak or non-pine...

just bought a new saw, bloody record - finally sorted

Our Terry seems to have a soft spot for rats - your sister might also like 'Maurice and his educated rodents' which is Terry Pratchetts version of the Pied Piper of Hamlyn. Very good it is too! The Death of Rats is a common character in the Death books, originating in the book 'Reaper Man' and...

    Calling Kity 419 Owners

Not had the problem myself but then I rarely use the TS for bevel cuts. I seem to remember someone complaining about stripping plastic teeth and making replacement metal cogs but I am afraid I don't remember if that was on a 419 or even on a TS. Not much help really, Sorry! Steve

iTunes 9 for Macs - WARNING

I am rapidly starting to go off itunes to be honest. It has taken to doing what microsoft does and wants to run everything in my life whether I want it to or not. I don't need to sync all my computers via my ipod. I like the order of my playlists as they are. I don't want itunes to arbitrarily...

Who is going to Cressing Temple?

Looks good, but as SWMBO is the size of a blimp and baby will be induced on Monday if not arrived of its own accord then I think discretion is the better part of valour and I shall have to decline this year. (ie SWMBO says no!). Enjoy! Steve

    Garden seat

Thats a nice looking bench! I have two cast iron bench ends that were left in the garden by the previous occupiers of our house I was planning to add slats to to make a bench. Can I ask what the dimensions of you slats are, and whether you put a mid support under the seat as you did on the...

    £50 for a empty plastic box !!!

But for how long and how accurately  To a certain point quality and functionality is worth paying for. Above that point it becomes status or paying for a name to a certain extent. Where that point is will be different for everyone. A mini and a mercedes will both get you from A to B...

    wastage again

A cubic ft is 12" x 12" x 12". You describe 12" x 24" x 4" which is 2/3rds of a cubic ft. Secondly, sawdust is less dense than the timber it was cut from. As a consequence your sawdust is actually alot less than 2/3rds of a cu ft in timber terms. Thus your 40% wastage is a bit high :D I would be...

    Any currency experts out there?

Unless there is another world changing event (Lehmans collapse or 9/11 etc) then movements will be minimal over a 6 week period - a maximum of a cent or so. On £2000 that will equate to 2000 cents or 20 euros max. Up to you whether you gamble for that saving and risk that size loss if it goes...

    B & Q

I hate those self service checkouts. Apart from having to do B&Qs job for them, what really gets my goat is 'please put your item on the tray' after you swipe anything. Even a 100 litre bag of compost. How the hell am I supposed to put a bag weighing 30 kilos that just fits into the trolly onto...

    Golf Driving Ranges?

I used to play golf quite alot. Should be no problem at all hiring clubs at a range, in fact I would suggest if they will not let you then find another range. Golf fits into the same category as Opera, classical music and fine art. There is an awful lot of snobishness about it by people that...
