    TRV's and removing a radiator

Thanks for all your advice guys, job done today and was pleased I had no problems in the end. Have capped both pipes as suggested just to be on the safe side. Still has not cured my hatred of plumbing, but has not made it worse either! Cheers, Steve

AWFS18/Hegner? What FD blades for cutting puzzles?

Interesting - given the Axminster is a clone of the Hegner why do you think the Axminsters vibrate while the Hegner does not? I think you are possibly the first person to have hands on experience of both machines (most of us have one or the other here) so it would be useful if you could expand...

    Bench Top

Hmm, hadn't considered that  Do traditional butchers blocks move much? I suppose on reflection the ones I have seen are lipped in timber and had sturdy carriage bolts in he corners with iron straps, but I figured this was more for decoration than to prevent movement. Reason for asking is...

    Bench Top

Something I have been pondering for a while - why do people not make benches like a butchers block and havethe end grain uppermost? Is it simply time and labour to craft it or is there a practical reason? Steve

    new member...with a big dissapointment

Not used one, but it tends to get good reviews as an entry level saw - a forum search should throw up a number of threads on it. Steve

Preventing water damage in utility room

Get a good quality white (other colours are available) bathroom sealant - if its good enough for showers on a daily basis it will be good enough for the occasional floor wash once or twice a week. Steve

    Rycotewood Proposals

I was going to suggest getting someone there with a scrollsaw but if power tools are out..... Collective name for a group of wood nuts - how about a 'knot' or a 'baulk'? Steve

Wizer - is it on or is it off

Depends if the nurse asked him if he wanted to take the little red pill and be at one with the matrix or the little blue pill and return to his previous existence I guess. If you are reading this - are you any good at Kung Fu suddenly Wizer? All the best! Steve

    Someone just got a bargain...

I was watching that too - bit of rust on the top but it was not listed as a 01332, only as a 3hp saw so I wondered if I might be able to nab it cheap (it was an 01332, just not listed as such in the title). Sat at 200 until this morning then boom. Didn't bid in the end - once it got past £350 it...

    TRV's and removing a radiator

Thanks guys, by the time SWMBO had stopped umming and ahing over carpets and wallpaper this afternoon I ran out of time to remove the rad  Will give it a go next weekend - hate doing plumbing jobs when the DIY shops are shut as I always need something as an emergency  Ta for the...

AWFS18/Hegner? What FD blades for cutting puzzles?

No problem. its a newbie SPAM trap and will disappear once you have posted more than 3 posts. I have the Axminster saw and have no concerns about it at all - never used a Hegner but the extra money is not going to buy you a better quality of cut, just a nicer finish to some of the castings...

    TRV's and removing a radiator

I need to remove a radiator, and one of the valves is a TRV. Does anyone know if these are sealed units? I can take the cap off the other end and do up the gland nut as usual, but the top of the TRV does not seem to come apart. I can turn it to 0 which stops the radiator getting hot and I...

    Snail mail spam

Well if the first question is 'what is your credit card PIN number' then we can assume that as you suggested in your previous post, they are indeed out to get you :D Steve

    Beginners Section!!??

The search function looks for words in a thread, not just the title of the thread. So you need to scan everything if you want to see why the search function highlighted it. Threads do drift on and off topic and there can be useful info buried in them if you look hard enough. That said, it is...

    DEFT Table saw

Jut had an e-mail from Axminster to say that until next Friday, 27th Nov there is 10% off the Jet JTS-600 saw bench, now £789-99 rather than the usual £880-80. Might meet your requirements? Steve

    DEFT Table saw

Except the 806, and 807 in particular, are considerably more expensive than the T30. Other saws closer to the DEFT in terms of price include the SIP 01332, the Axminster 10" jobbie or the record TS200, although the record is on legs rather than a closed in cabinet. Again, opinions vary and the...

credit card. anyone here with trade knowledge?

Ack, I deliberately didn't go into probability theory and the availability of 4 digit numbers as I knew it would kick off! We have had a long discussion on the lottery before some time ago and the naievity of people in terms of understanding probability. DW, you are right. They are monitoring...

credit card. anyone here with trade knowledge?

Reset it then - I have never had a card where I haven't had the ability to reset the PIN. Tis good practice to do so anyway at least initially! Steve

    Table insert

Not a daft question at all, and the large slot is not really necessary. Most scrollers, when they make a ply or similar insert, just cut a slot into it the thickness of the blade so there is zero space around the blade entry point. Agreed if you need to tilt the table the slot will need to be a...

    Table insert

£18  Not a chance in hell that it costs that to manufacture - are you sure you asked for an insert and not a new table? As said, most scrollers knock one up out of ply. As a word of warning though, make sure it is not higher than the existing table as if you do compound cutting this will...
