    Mansard pitch roof

well change of plan. Going for the 34 degree slope at the front to match existing (tiled) then go onto a flat roof which will have epdm and then it will slope off the back at about 29 - 30 degrees (tiled) I think this is the most straight forward way and it gives us some nice ceiling height in...

    Mansard pitch roof

Thanks robin I'll take a look at the site. The ceiling I am going for is vaulted. I know that alters the construction a bit. Is it just beefed up timbers (here I'm running with 2x6's Cheers Mark

Hey Relish, Welcome to the forum, have you looked at the plans of Steve Ramsey. He made a toy chest a while back on his you tube channel Here is his build video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE5qh_3RUQY and here are the free plans...

    Mansard pitch roof

Hi Robin, The pitch selected for the front of the extension should blend in nicely with the existing so that should make it look as if it has been there. I have a 34 degree pitch at the front (matching what exists already) I have copied the 34 degree pitch for the rear as well and then finally...

    Mansard pitch roof

Haha. Yeah I suppose that's the thing really. I just want to be able to draw something up to show them and then see what they say. If I can get it as close as possible to the end product all the better.

    Mansard pitch roof

Hi All, Another roof related question. So after my other post with regards to roof joists Robin said about using a Mansard pitch roof instead. After looking at this and getting the missus approval I have a question with regards to pitch. How our house is there is a small kick off on the front...

    roof joist spacing

Hi Robin, Am I correct in saying that you can still have vaulted ceilings with the mansard perimeter pitched roof. From a quick google it seems possible. Is there a max span that it can go over? The span for mine would be about 2.6 meters (so possible beef up the joists to a 2 by 8 or more)...

    roof joist spacing

Hi all, Ah OK so the 150mm I was saying for the floor is right. (I don't want to lower the floor I just did not know 150mm was correct) The mansard perimeter pitch could be a solution. Need to talk the the misses and see if she likes it. A building will be doing the the build to the point of...

    roof joist spacing

Hi Roger, The only trouble is if I increase the pitch to 30 degrees the lower end of the wall ends up as about 5ft 8 inches (to small). With the pitch at 25 degrees the lower end of the wall ends up at about 6ft 10 inches with it at 20 degrees the lower end of the wall ends up at about 7 ft...

    roof joist spacing

Hi all thought a picture of the proposed extension may clear a few things up. I may just be working it out wrong and the pitch im saying is wrong but using the protractor in sketchup shows 20 degrees so thats why i believe it is a 20 degree pitch. Cheers Mark

    roof joist spacing

What's do you mean problems start at 35 degrees Rod? What for? Yeah I think I may go for 2x8s bill. Could be better PFF with that really.

    roof joist spacing

Yeah been looking at them. I'm hoping I can get planning office to say it's fine to use them as we have red tiles on the house. I want to make the extension so it is seen as a "modern" extension and I like the way black tiles pop.

    roof joist spacing

Hey nolegs, Cheers that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up Mark

    roof joist spacing

Yeah been looking at the tiles that can cope with it so I have found a few options as long as the planning office says they are OK to use if not back to the drawing board.

    roof joist spacing

Hi robin, Ill probably be going for concrete or clay tiles would that make a difference. Nolegs, sounds about what I was thinking. What where the 4x1's for though not sure what you mean with that. And yes I will be wanting to plan that out to avoid the cutting. Cheers Mark

    roof joist spacing

OK so from the looks of it I could get away with 600mm centres but I think I'd go with 450 just to be safe. May will double check the span to ensure though. I've seen what needs to be done to spread the load from the cut joist to the 2 surrounding joists (a header and footer on the cut joist...

    roof joist spacing

Hi all, I am currently making some plans for a single story extension I want to do at the side of my house. The roof is really a lean to type of affair and im going for a 20 degree pitch so I get the head room I want on the lower side. We plan to have velux windows ( the 980 by 780 odd ones) my...
