    extracting mdf dust

Barry, thanks. I can see now from the posted pix. Do the pleated canister filters load up much? quickly?

    extracting mdf dust

Barry, are you presently using two canister filters with plastic bags/bins underneath - effectively a dual filter on top of a drop box? How blocked up do those filters get? could they relace a multipocket bag filter? (see below)I know the cyclone is probably best, but is much more difficult to...

    extracting mdf dust

Barry, thanks for the ebay cartridge filter link. Was there a particular reason for choosing this one? (RB industrial list more than one cannister). Scrit's link to the Felder may be more helpful to potential constructors. Barry's ebay link to RBIndustrial shows this seller is currently...

    extracting mdf dust

At the risk of teaching grandma, the first thing is to think about the machine and the qty/type of waste it's producing. Most folk won't be putting mdf over a planer so it's typically producing large and light shavings, and with a proper extractor hood, so a relatively modest air flow...

Bosch Fixed Base and Plunge Router?

Ah Haaa! If only I could find a suitable flexible shaft, I could fit it to the fine adjuster and bring it out up top and count turns. That sort of thing?

    extracting mdf dust

The problem with Camvacs (and any other universal motored high revving vac) is low airflow. The 3 motor Camvac only moves about 300 cu.ft.min. Wouldn't be much good on a sawbench cutting mdf, although a single motor would do for a router (see Bill's cylone pages)

    extracting mdf dust

Barry, where did you find the 20 sq m pleated filters for £47? I have been thinking of improving my filtration. (presently a 6' high singed polyester felt bag over a metal bin) which keeps back most MDF dust if cleaned daily - a dusty old job...I was thinking a drop box might do. According to...

    Thinking of a Festool C12 - am I mad?

Hope you haven't made a decision you'll regret! Usally operating on the very side of careful, I did choose a C12, partly for the 'Centrotec' quick change system, partly for the brushless motor. The C12 also is better a bit like a LN plane is better. I also have a 14v Hitachi combo for rougher...

Bosch Fixed Base and Plunge Router?

Most router lifts are not helpful with fixed-bases,they are primarily used with plunge router--to overcome the resistance of a plunge router and/or to provide above-the-table adjustment ( an advantage with either type.) Why not just take out the column springs? Doesn't top adjustment get in the...

Bosch Fixed Base and Plunge Router?

What possible advantage does a fixed base have over a plunge, when fitted to a router table? As far as I can see from the US mag FineWoodworking, as soon as Uncle Sam gets home with his fixed base router he's out shopping for a router lift (which looks awfully like a pair of plunge columns to...

    Tite-mark rival from Rutlands

Just spotted on the packing as I went to bin it, "brass and stainless steel". The adjusting screws look stainless, I thought the stem was plated - looks 'wrong' colour for polished stainless, but I could be wrong.

    Tite-mark rival from Rutlands

Needing a new marking gauge, and being a bit of a cheapskate, decided to risk purchasing a Rutlands £23.99 Tite-mark lookalike. Turns out to be nicely made in brass/steel (Taiwan, probably direct Titemark copy, in Rutlands Dakota brand blisterpack.) And no, the head (41mm) doesn't rotate when...

Festool saw and guide rail system, initial results

Don't forget that plunge saws like the Festool or Mafell can climb cut. By starting the cut at the far side of the board, with a shallow setting, say 3mm, a delicate surface can be score cut; thus chipping, spelching or breakout is *impossible*. The cut is completed with a forward pass at full...

    Woodrat clamps

My woodrat has the newer plastic type angles, (against which the cam clamps work). They're covered with non slip tread tape. The right hand, cutter position clamp works fine. However...anything clamped in the left hand, mark position clamp, always seems to creep a few thou away from the rail...

    Phenolic Sheet

I thought the woodrat type phenolic was made for engraving signs? You could also have a look here http://www.westwardplastics.co.uk, they do tufnol in 2 grades (VERY different prices) pvc, acetal, ptfe, etc in their industrial plastic section. They do mail order, cut pieces 300x300, 600x1200...

    UK made wheel marking gauge?

Thanks for the link, George! Has anyone seen a Sureline gauge? It certainly looks like a Titemark for 20 quid less, but still a 'needs careful consideration' price.

    Which panel saw???

I've been following this thread with interest, as I've long carried a latent hope that a moderately priced scoring panel saw would make me jump for joy...ah, the naivite of old age. Mafell: I thought the 'inbuilt scoring' feature came courtesy of the retractable riving knife - you make a shallow...

    UK made wheel marking gauge?

Spent a couple of hours last night being enjoyably distracted from my search for a UK made wheel gauge - I'm sure I saw a link on the site? It was a LN lookalike, for less £ and I think made in stainless. Could some kind soul please point me in the right direction? Does anyone know how it...

problem with USA dewalt mitre saw

Just finished watching an old" Taggart" on tv, went and looked at my mitre saw - it is a DW706 and the motor plate states 115v 15A. That's close to half a load for the 3kW transformer, a reasonable derating. Once the starting surge is passed, the unloaded saw will draw very little current - a...
