    What's a fair price on a Kity 10x8 P/T ?

I have to sell my Dad's Kity P/T. It's 15 years old (636) but in near mint condition with original paperwork. It didn't get much use, and he lined the cast Ali tables with laminate, so they're hardly marked. Capacity is 250x200mm with 250x1200mm tables. Steel fence, 2 HSS knife cutter block...

    Bandsaw Questions

My only 3 wheel saw was more paper than bricks...but your mate may have something there. In 2 wheeled saws it is sometimes reported that the blade position is not stable when both wheels are crowned, and also not in the same plane Presumably in this situation both wheels 'fight' for control...

    Gauge Mod......

I seem to have lost a paragraph when copying into 'post a reply'. The two I bought from Tilgear, recently on sale, also had stiction from small burrs along the V grove edge, which was removed by a pass or two of 600 grit slipstone. What should I do with the dosh saved on these, then Alf?

    Gauge Mod......

David, there's a plastic grubscrew fitted into the body, which is supposed (I guess) to stop the shaft dropping out. This is probably the stiction culprit, and easily removed, as I undid the one I inspected, which then moved freely and without looseness. Something sprung loaded would work...

    Gauge Mod......

David C says the Axminster Titemark clone is not very good at all, but why? I had a look at the realone and the copy, and as far as I can see the only difference is in the screw that fixes the wheel to the shaft. As a matter of interest, the shaft diams are identical and both LN replacement...

    Lidl's £1 Diamond stones

Found a bin full of of 50x150 Chinese? diamond stones today, 150/300/400 grit, at three quid for the three. I have seen these at £6 each which is a bit silly. Toolstation charge a fiver for three. They cut well, and stop me using my good ones for rough jobs.

    Clamps or Cramps?

SWMBO has a 2 vol gert fat dictionary (no wonder she always wins at scrabble) which says historically both words originally came to the UK from Germany - klempe and krempe. 'Clamp' apparntly originally meant a reinforcement - a band of iron round wood etc, (I can only think of an exhast clamp...

Dodgy axminster/ bessey k body clamps

I have had 4 of the Axminster 600 mm jobs for some months, these are OK, and appear pretty identical to the Bessey. I'd definitely send the bent ones back, it will be at their expense, too. OK they are a little less than the Bessey, but not what I'd call cheap clamps.

    vacuum pressing

A vac. press is something I fancy trying one day, if I find a vac pump at the right price. I read somewhere that butyl pond liner works quite well - obviously it has to be strong / puncture resistant to work as a pond liner, I presume it must be glueable (if you have to line a very big pond) it...

Ten Quid basic Moisture Meter, mini review.

I have the feeling that it might well grow on me, as I get used to using it and interpreting the readings. I had not clearly thought about this before, but that well dried sample might show 0% on the surface, 7% 1/4 the way in (what Hoadley says is ~ average%) and maybe 15% in the middle. Not...

Triton, Trend T11 or Router Lift

Regarding adjustment; I find I'm often adjusting bit height with my eye at table level. Thus reaching under for the fine height adjuster is often not a problem at all. I'm not sure if top adjustment is just a 'feature'; but I was very impressed when Philly whistled his router up and down from...

Ten Quid basic Moisture Meter, mini review.

Well, temptation won, Houtslager's bargain moisture meter must be the thing at a tenner, I thought. But is it? A follow up on the original post suggested it mght not be, but too late, mine was in the post. First impression, ooh! it's tiny, and look at those diddy (5mm) pins. A quick look in...

    Bessey or Sash?

Tilgear have some really nice ali sash (got a good clapometer rating from Fine Woodworking too) which handle comfortably. Axminster does a Bessy clone which looks identical. They do their own label all steel sash made by Groz which are very strong, very heavy, and long ones are clumsy to handle...

    Trend T5

I think Woodcut used to carry a lookalike model, which was made by Perles (Swiss) I presumed the Trend was a rebadged version of this, perhaps by now an 'old' Perles model?

    Straight edges.

I'd wondered where to get a decent straight edge, the Roebuck ones are made to DIN874, either /2 general purpose or /1 grade B. Had a google round but the best info I can find on the DIN standard gives the 'tolerance' for a 1m st. edge as either 33 (gp), or 21 (gradeB) micrometres. The grade B...

Anyone seen the Excaliber P/T close up?

Noting the recently posted comments about its' fence, I'd more or less decided to upgrade my P/T to the Jet, specially as it's now on sale at ~£1000 (Axminster, both tables lift as one, with fence in situ). Following all the Excaliber excitement I had a look on their website, to see they now...

    Worktop router buying advice

Recently sent back two CMT 625 lookalikes because of bit run out. My original DW 625 is perfect here. So I bought a second DW 625 although dearer, acceptable runout, has some evidence of design modification by accountants over version 1. I believe all the 625 lookalikes are made in the same...

    Garage door insulation?

We used 50mm polystyrene board, seemed easier to find in small qty. It rains a lot here in Devon and the steel door is not 100% waterproof at the seams (it's a double) so they were glued flush (adhesive mastic) with the inside of the door so any leaks can still dribble out.
