    Peacock Oil

Ooo interesting! I found a big can of linseed oil in my fathers tool shed, it's been there for around 40 years judging by the address on the tin; it's very thick and sticky! I was going to thin it down and use it for unimportant jobs. I will dispense it into 50 ml bottles and sell alongside my...

Spray Adhesive For Attaching Abrasive Sheets To Granite Tile

Make sure the plane is intact and other that the blade retracted, just as you would use it. Rub the sole on some fine wet and dry on a flat surface (maybe your glass plate), not much just to create shine on the raised parts of the sole. Photograph the result and we will tell you if it's...

Quangsheng No.6 Acceptable Finish Condition On A New Plane

Any company here, using steel has the extra "millstone" of carbon credits to cost in their final price. Meanwhile China has another 700 (that's not a mistake!) coal fired power stations planned.

Quangsheng No.6 Acceptable Finish Condition On A New Plane

I note you are in Swindon. A bit further west in Bristol is the best 2nd hand woodworking tool shop in the universe. You will get "a ready to go" plane there for a good price. Damned if I can remember what the shop is called  Someone will pop up with the name soon enough.

Spray Adhesive For Attaching Abrasive Sheets To Granite Tile

You might be right about wet and dry. My guess is (would not consider doing it) lapping cast iron with 80 grit would be a sure way to bollux up a sole. I usually use a bit of fine on a new (to me) plane sole just to see where and how bad the humps and bumps are. Often they are of no consequence...

Quangsheng No.6 Acceptable Finish Condition On A New Plane

Why not ask the retailer? Personally I would never buy new as the older much cheaper ones do the job very well. (Also I am tight fisted) 25 quid is the most I have ever spent on a plane. 30 minutes fettle time is about average.

Spray Adhesive For Attaching Abrasive Sheets To Granite Tile

Thickish Mdf is flatter than those granite plates. Have you considered that the weave of the sander belt will cause unevenness ? I use wet and dry and spray mount on mdf and just chuck it away and start again when the paper is worn out. But it lasts ages.

    So, BE chisels...

Well I assume the OP has the message about sticking to old chisels. Maybe he would now like us to explain the best way to sharpen them :D

    old files

I know its been discussed but I cant find it. I'm looking for methods to rejuvenate a few old metalworking files and some heavy duty rasps.

Now I have Mastered Woodwork I am moving on losers.

When I saw that raw lump of stone it reminded me that its not long now to the Macmillan open day near Market Harborough. You might think (not unreasonably) I am a raving nutcase to associate the two, but the explanation is that there is a stone mason on the same site and his stone looks a lot...

    Money abroad - who's a seasoned traveller?

We have been to all the major tourist cities in Italy in the last five years. Credit cards are fine for purchases, but don't let the retailer convert to pounds!pay in euros. Our bank (Santander ) seems to give a good exchange rate. Use debit card (in ATM) if you run out of dosh, never your CC...

This post is a perfect antidote to the whining and tantrums going on elsewhere and for me truely represents what this forum is about.
