    Impact driver

Had a go with my new toy this morning after collecting some De walt PZ3 bits. I am most impressed, particularly with the lack of cam out. I am dismantling a fence and putting the (20) panels into a different location on the same site. I think it will be perfect for re-installation, together...

    Impact driver

I bought a bare one that uses same batteries as my Makita drill driver. Amazon 44 quid delivered. It’s 18v so I am needing the warnings about torque. Ordered some proper bits from tool station will collect in the morning.

Thank you myfordman , it was that smell exactly that got me thinking. We can use the petrol car for the duration.

    Wood yard closed or open?

They will be closed. For some reason bent and quirky will still deliver, but proper building supplies are closed

    Cars and batteries

We have two cars one is petrol and the other diesel. It’s years since I have used a battery charger, so not sure about modern cars. Can I leave the battery connected and just piggyback the charger. Mine is a very old one where I would have removed the battery from the car, charged and then...

Start up a second thread about your face mask batteries and a solution might be found. Could be useful to others

    Impact driver

I have just ordered a impact driver. Are ordinary PZ bits ok with these? I am prepared that they will not last for long but they are cheap enough. I tend to loose them faster than I wear them out. Daft question, mostly use PZ2. Is PZ1 larger or smaller?

    It's good to chat

This forum has been my main two way of communicating with the world outside of my family. It's both a distraction from the current crisis and also brings home the realities via members personal plights. Maybe the moderators might consider temporarily allowing more variety for the duration. Best...

    Coronavirus

The reason for this is we have neglected industry in this country for so long and now rely on others to supply us with products. We used to be world leaders in pharmaceutical research and chemical manufacture. Now, all we are good at is banking and other paper shuffling. In Loughborough where I...

    Coronavirus

My wife is a nurse practitioner in a medical centre. For two weeks the practice has been basically phone consultation only. She declares she is no where near front line. The practice has whatsap to stay in contact which she has avoided until the past few weeks , but the chatter now, she finds...

Astrophysicist gets out of his depth and ends up in hospital

Not a big surprise having worked with Academics. I worked in (the now world famous) Genetics Department at Leicester University. We had a senior lecturer there who was a true genius, but he was absolutely crackers with it. Whilst officially, I was supposed to assist him with experiments my...

    A little thread of calm?

Moneymaker is excellent, in fact I have gone back to growing a few after going all exotic and the results not living up to their promise. You don’t need to fertilise at all until the plants are transplanted. Do this as soon as they have true leaves Then little and often is the secret. I use...

    A little thread of calm?

Not quite. F1s which most bulk vegetable growers use, will not come true to type. Also carrots will most likely cross fertilise with similar weeds . Brassicas will cross fertilise and the resultant crop will be bitter DAMHIKT I have been using Lidl seeds successfully for a few years. They are...

I am exactly the same, except I do grow a few early spuds.
