    Trump and bleach

I suppose if his advice removes some folks, on both sides of the Atlantic, from the gene pool, it will not be entirely a bad thing. Same folks who are burning down phone masts for example.

How much will this cost me

When I were a lad.......... the only thing that really mattered was the balance of payments. Mr Micawber expressed all we needed to know about the economy.

    Trump and bleach

True, but he is not far removed from our own political masters, they in the main have noddy degrees often ironically PPE!! But somehow think themselves experts in subjects that require significant effort and ability to achieve proficiency. It always stuck in my head that, Cherie Blair who must...

How much will this cost me

Don’t forget that us wrinklies were still paying for the Second World War up until only a few years ago.

How much will this cost me

Nationalise every Chinese owned U.K. company, that should be worth a few quid. Political? racist? I don’t care! How else do we get them to prevent the next one? I believe this current catastrophe is just a taster for the real thing. With hindsight the upsurge of ivory poaching was the very...

    DIY leaded lights. Any advice?

There was a almost identical discussion about irons on this forum some time ago when Phil was looking for a new one. We are now covering old ground. Glass people I know are still struggling to find a reliable iron. I have repaired a few old wellers using donor parts, for my tutor.

    DIY leaded lights. Any advice?

You need to force cement into the gaps between the came and the glass, this is what gives the panel its strength . It's a absolutely filthy job. Sorry, glass from 1930s Windows

    DIY leaded lights. Any advice?

I have just done a window using just rectangles and diamonds and i found it much harder than more free flowing stuff. Absolutely everything has to be spot on. To get mm perfect pieces just by cutting is hard. A glass works will have a grinder table (use like a router table) to do what us woodies...

    DIY leaded lights. Any advice?

It’s fairly simple but you really need some tuition to get you going IMHO. Cutting the glass is fairly easy once you know how. I use quite a lot of recycled glass. You are going to be surprised how expensive new glass is!! Surprisingly routing and cutting the lead came is a bit more skilful...

    Travel for exercise?

I want to go fishing. Unless you fish you will not understand the desperate need. The place I fish is 15 minutes drive. I would not get more than 40 metres closer to another soul the whole time. But we can’t go and that’s all there is to it. As we saw before the lock down, there are too many...

    sanding sealer

I have just gone to use an open bottle of liberon sanding sealer and found it has got a bit thick. What can I use to dilute it ?

    Quality of tools

It's just a case of going in with your eyes open. Ask yourself if there is a good reason for the price difference and if you are happy to compromise or not. For example, I bought a very cheap recipicating saw from lidl maybe five years ago. I needed it for one task and decided if it survived...

    Toolstation - good experience

I was concerned about what screwfix might be doing with my details, so I gave myself a PhD and styled myself as Dr. :D So far no one has written to me with that prefix so maybe I worry too much.

    Toolstation - good experience

For most things, toolstation is far better than screwfix. I have used their click and collect twice since the lock down. Their system felt very safe.

A birch shall have to be felled

Assuming that you plan to dig the stump out, leave at least six foot of the trunk in place to act as a lever.
