    tormek t3 not sharpening square

Cheers Random. That makes perfect sense now. Unfortunately I need a bit longer than I used to to figure things out these days!! Drinking beer all afternoon whilst lying in the sun and perusing tool catalogues is probably the reason!!

    tormek t3 not sharpening square

Random, is the beastie you're referring to? Presumably the aim is to anchor the tool between the guide bar and the wheel? Not too sure if I understood your method correctly.....

    tormek t3 not sharpening square

You may also want to check that the tool rest/bar is properly installed. I know that on my T3 it can sometimes not be at an exact right angle to the cutting face of the stone. Mine is only threaded on one of the legs which has the knurled stop nut on it. Push this all the way in to it's hole and...

    Rustic

Not sure why, but it reminds me in some way of Henry Moores 'ATOM HEAD' sculptures. Very nice indeed. I don't do turning as I haven't found the right second hand lathe yet, but when I do get one and have a go this is the kind of thing I'd love to be able to do. It's like an artefact - the more I...

Drill and impact driver set recommendations

Just a quick bit of advice regarding the Makita 18v gear - there is a known issue with their batteries (the 3.0ah ones) that if they overheat they effectively become defunct. The charger will read them as knackered and not charge them. I've read that this is something to do with first cell in...

    Window heads WIP (sort of)

OK, this is not really a WIP as I've finished the project now (apart from installation which happens tomorrow), and it's pretty mundane stuff. The reason for posting is that I'd like your feedback on the techniques and methods that I've used to complete this job. The clients brief was to remove...

    WIP - Pergola and decking

Personally I would be dubious about laying the joists straight on the ground - they'll definitely move over time. Better to concrete in some short timber posts and then cut them all off at the same level and go from there. As for plastic decking, I installed some for a client about six moths ago...

    Grout for patio slabs

I used this stuff for my patio about 10 years ago and it's still fine - no cracks or vegetation growing through. http://www.screwfix.com/p/sika-pave-fix ... 1ltr/51118

    How to roughen wood

I've got some spectacularly knackered blades for my Planer/Thicknesser. They cause wood to come out looking like decking!!

    Xcalibur/Harvey set up

This looks like the saw I want!! Is this from Xcalibur? I can't seem to find any info giving detailed specs of their saws. Would you be so kind as to let me know where you got this from, the model number and if it's not being too cheeky how much it was? I'd be very grateful.

New Table Saw - £500 Sitting here waiting!

I was in exactly the same quandary as you are. I ended up spending £440 on ebay to buy an old Wadkin AGS 10 table saw. It's absolutely rock solid, but suffers from a slightly iffy fence. A lot of people I know who have table saws that cost less than £2.5k say that fences ALWAYS require a bit of...

    Airplane plans

Whilst refurbishing a property for a client recently I found a set of blueprints which appear to be for building a light aircraft. I seem to recall that there is a member of this forum who builds 'planes and was wondering if he/she would be interested in the blueprints. Unfortunately I can't...

Should have done a WIP I know but!

I'm constantly stunned by the level of craftsmanship evident on this forum. It's extremely humbling. My own efforts are more akin to forestry in comparison to what some of you are getting up to. I think that I agree with the comment about the edge moulding, but then again if I had made something...

    Resaw

You could try this but use a recip saw instead of a handsaw. I know they can be a bit jumpy, but if you've got it started in the kerf from the circular saw it should be OK

Domino Users: Do you use 4 or 5mm??

XL 700 is currently £640 ex VAT at Toolfest. Chuck in a £50 quid voucher and that's pretty reasonable methinks. http://www.toolfest.co.uk/festool-df-700-xl

    Resaw

+1 for the Bandsaw method. If you've got a good fence and a sharp blade you'll have hardly any planing to do. A quick pass or two over the p/t and you're ready to go.
