    Fitting skirtings

Thanks for all the comments guys - it's re-assuring to know that I'm not just some luddite who thinks a coping saw should be in very chippies toolbox. (Now you'll all tell me you use a jigsaw!) I agree with Mailee and the rest of you - carpentry/joinery skills are being lost (quite rapidly) Up...

    Fitting skirtings

Baldy, I agree it's common sense. Unfortunately though common sense doesn't always win through. Several years ago I worked as a Site Manager for a company building high end bespoke executive homes and was stunned to find that the 2nd fix carpentry contractors were simply mitring all internal...

    Fitting skirtings

I'd be interested to hear peoples opinions regarding the fitting of skirting boards - specifically the joining at internal corners. I've heard a lot of (younger) chippies recently complaining that when using deep skirting boards and fitting to a corner that is out of square (over 90 degs...

what do you use on your diamond stone

Now thats just stupid. Everyone knows that Fig juice ruins diamond stones. Duh!

    Air hose apater

Use the top of a plastic drinks bottle and loads of duct tape. Drinks bottles and duct tape feature heavily in most areas of my life.

what do you use on your diamond stone

I find the grainy mustard removes too much steel. Personally I prefer Balsamic Vinegar - it creates a fine slurry and fills the workshop with the scent of the Mediterranean.

A visit to Axy is in order methinks....

Mainly to do with build quality and the fact that both the people I know who have them have received theirs with bits missing/damaged and have had issues getting problems resolved by Woodford. One issue in particular related to the robustness of the fence and the fact that it needed fairly...

A visit to Axy is in order methinks....

Doh!! I only went and bought it!! Now I need to figure out how to get it out of the back of the Landie and round the back of the house to the Man Cave.

A visit to Axy is in order methinks....

I've been umming and ahhing over which new Table-saw to buy - Xcalibur, Axi, Record and it's time to head off to Sittingbourne and have a 'feel' as it were. I had pretty much decided on the Xcalibur until two acquaintances who own the newer models gave me their opinions which caused me to doubt...

    Dado Blade Set

Tell him there is a member of the forum who was going to 'phone him tomorrow and order a new saw - nearly £2ks worth who is now feeling a bit nervous and is starting to look elsewhere. It's me - I was going to phone them and I am now feeling nervous.

    Table Saw Buying Advice

This is a piccy of an AGS 10 of a similar vintage to mine, although mine's in colour  I'll get some images of the old girl later tonight (the saw that is - not the actual old girl. Although come to think of it you can have her for £400 quid. She's louder than the saw though)

    Table Saw Buying Advice

I'll get some photos of mine (not too easy at the moment as the workshop is full of s***e) and some links so you can see what kind of machine it is. Give me a couple of hours though - SWIMBO's just come home!

Is this saw worth a punt?

This thread has already cost us one member - looks as though scrolling is the new sharpening. Where's Jacob?

    Table Saw Buying Advice

If you're interested I am selling my Wadkin AGS 10 in about a month. It'll take a Dado head and is solid as a rock. I'm selling it because I need a larger saw now with a sliding table. It hasn't been drilled or messed with in any way. I've added a box on the side to improve dust extraction but...

    Build a shed Mike's way

You're right Wizard, screwing down the sole plate does technically compromise the DPM but as you state it's not significant enough to worry about it. I build quite a few timber frame buildings, both habitable (houses) and non-habitable (Workshops, pool houses etc) and go for a belt n braces...

New Toy - Bosch GCM 12 GDL - first impressions

Spot on Mike. The saw was cutting a shad out from 90 degs when set to the zero detent - very quick and easy to adjust. The lasers are all over the place and need adjusting which I'll do this evening if there's nothing good on tele. Getting the laser cover on and off is a bit of a faff though, so...

New Toy - Bosch GCM 12 GDL - first impressions

Woo Woo!! Delivery man from FFX has just struggled up the drive and down the path to the workshop with a mahoosive box containing my latest weapon of mass construction. On unpacking the first thing I can say about it is that it's not what I would call a 'portable' saw - it weighs a ton and is...

Steve's doors - open inwards or outwards !

I'd suggest a solid steel 'drug dealer' door that slides UP. Install CCTV, a bio-metric door lock and build a couple of machine gun towers manned by Israelis and/or Palestinians (They seem to be equally trigger happy to me). Leave a hungry leopard roaming about at night and you shouldn't have...

    Ancient Chinese proverbs?

Thanks Mark. I'll be sure to remember that when winter comes. :?

    Help wanted with earring stand.

Sorry mate, can't help there. I just googled earring stand and trawled through a couple of pages of images. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out a cut list etc though - I'm sure you're up to it. Good luck
