    A simple garden chainsaw mill

Don't listen to all the naysayers - go ahead and make it. If it doesn't work refine it and keep on refining it until it does what you want. Then you can triumphantly post a load of pics on here and a set of sketchup plans and we'll all congratulate you on your perseverance and tenacity and make...

    Makita or Festool Plunge Saw

My two cents worth...... the work I do is increasingly consisting of what i call panel joinery - making built ins, kitchen carcasses etc, mostly using veneered or plain MDF/Plywood. I, like many others caught the Festal bug with an initial purchase of a TS55 complete with CTL Midi extractor, two...

Will this work - any thoughts please...

Thanks Sgian. That all makes sense (although I had to google 'Trunnels') One last question: as we're trying to avoid the anticipated movement from causing damage would it therefore be better NOT to glue the M&T joints but to just rely on the 'tunnels'? Presumably if the timber can move enough...

Will this work - any thoughts please...

Thanks guys. I've always found this forum tremendously useful for gaining knowledge and getting advice, and this occasion has been no exception. I understand the basics of timber movement, but my experience has not always been matched by the theories - as Sgian says, probably luck more than...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

If only you lived in Kent I could supply you with my surplus. I hate the damned things and always seem to have a few left over after a job. Today I actually abandoned 4 full sheets of 25mm MDF and left them on site after I'd finished the job. I couldn't bear the thought of lugging them up three...

Will this work - any thoughts please...

OK. I get the concept, and not too difficult to do. I'll be using an epoxy resin and dominos so that should be fine. What is the reason for it pulling itself apart though? I've got a conventional tabletop outside made from Oak glued up with epoxy and domino's together thats been outside for...

Will this work - any thoughts please...

Thanks for all the responses so quickly guys. I presume then that I'd be better off going for the normal style table top - all the boards in one direction with the exception of breadboard ends. I'd like to know what the reason is that you all say it will self destruct - not that I doubt you - I...

Will this work - any thoughts please...

I've been asked to make a table (outdoor) from 94 x 44 sapele. The customer has asked for the top to be made as the image shows. Anyone got any thoughts as to why I shouldn't (apart from the aesthetics).

Dedicating a router to a table - idea needs fleshing out

Like Random I've got the Trend T11 jobbie and find it extremely good. I've actually got three of them. One is permanently in the table, one is set up and used JUST for kitchen worktops and the other is for anything else. I know thats a bit excessive, but I seem to do an awful lot of kitchen...

That is indeed a fine looking roof. The nuts of the pup in fact. =D> =D> =D>

    A Horny issue

On visiting the Bently Woodfair at the weekend my 10 year old son has purchased a cow horn which he wants to use asa a drinking horn. Does anyone know what i can use to coat the inside to make it hygienically clean and obviously something that is food/drink safe. I'm going to coat the outside in...

How to join three legged table legs to table top

OK, here goes my attempt to explain what i've seen in the past to do this: Turn a cylinder. Attach the legs to this using sliding dovetails. Chop a mortice in the centre of the cylinder. Fix a corresponding tenon with a top flange to the underside of the table top. Drop the table top into the...

Ideas to fix door threshold / step? (a bit buildy!)

I'd say your idea sounds sensible and is probably one of the best ways of solving the problem. You may want to try and get a lap with your DPC and also check out vertical DPC behind frame. Definitely do it on daywork rate though like rdesign says. Jobs like this have a habit of running away from...

    Options for MDF Wardrobe doors?

With regard the doors option 2 seems to only give a 12mm door. Personally I'd always aim to finish up at 18mm or more. In the past I've layered up 6mm stiles and rails on EITHER side of a 6mm panel or just gone with 12mm door with 6mm on outside only.

    Turning books

+1 for "Uncle Keith". I just received mine and have been reading it avidly. He actually explains the basic physics of why dig-ins occur which is my biggest worry as I'm about to start turning. Very well written and clear. I believe there used to be DVD to accompany the book but I can't find it...

    Junk mail

Geoff, I'm presuming that you're using the default mail app. If this is the case go into the applications preferences and select the junk mail icon at the top of the window. Enable Junk Mail filtering and select the option to Move it to the Junk Mailbox Then click on the Accounts icon and...

    Has anyone used this

It looks like a knock-off of the Tormek system. There are loads of people with lots to say about Tormeks on here- do a search. Really it depends on how well made it is. The original Tormeks are well made bits of kit. Dunno about this version though.

    Coin cutting

I'd have thought that 'les flics' have better things to do than worry about Scrollerman defacing a few thrupenny bits
