    Buying British...

At the risk of being booed off the forum I'll add my two cents worth. It would seem to me that we all have to share some of the responsibility for the death of British Manufacturing and real British made goods and products. Obviously anything made here is going to cost more than a similar...

    Chicken Hoose

I'd be keen to have a look at the sketchup model if the offer still stands. We have some cooks arriving in a few weeks and I need to build a hen house pronto.

    Which mitre saw

I know its only a 190mm model but I use one of these for site work (almost every day at the moment) and love it. Impressive cut measurements too. http://www.its.co.uk/pd/LS0714-Makita-C ... LS0714.htm

    table saws, what one???

Dunno about iTech table saws but I recently got an iTech Spindle Moulder from S&S. It's the same as Axi's hobby version (not shown online but in the catalogue) and it seems fine to me. The fence was utter rubbish and quickly achieved escape velocity through the workshop doors to be replaced by...

    need a toolbox, suggestions?

For a site box I use mainly Festool sys rollers as most of my gear is green. I also use one of these https://www.stanleytools.co.uk/product/147616 and find it OK. Great for getting up and down stairs etc. I prefer all my stuff to be on wheels. This box has had some bad reviews (bits breaking off...

Kitchen Cabinet Door Spindle moulder tooling

Thanks for the answer Robin, but I think you left out a link or something?

Kitchen Cabinet Door Spindle moulder tooling

Until recently I'd (strangely) only ever been asked to make up Shaker style doors for kitchen cabinets and wardrobes. It's not that I don't do many cabinets - over 40 cabinet/kitchen/wardrobe type jobs in just over two years - just that everyone wanted either plain flat doors or Shaker style...

New Spindle Moulder and Bandsaw - and some questions.

Thanks for that Rodders. I've downloaded the manual and thoroughly disassembled and then re-assembled the whole thing, greasing/cleaning etc where required. I'm pretty sure that as you say the saw is a capable beast. It's the guide and guard assembly that to my mind lets it down. The guard...

New Spindle Moulder and Bandsaw - and some questions.

Thanks for the replies to my questions guys. Sorry for not responding sooner but a (non workshop) accident left me unable to type and therefore away from the computer. Not that it's relevant but it involved a Landcover, a Winch, a trailer loaded with 2 tons of firewood and an ill-timed sneeze...

New Spindle Moulder and Bandsaw - and some questions.

I've just taken the plunge and added a new Spindle Moulder (iTech 01456) and used Bandsaw (Axi White AWHBS350N) to the workshop. Having never owned either a Spindle Moulder or a Bandsaw before I have a few questions. Firstly, as a lot of what I make seems to be in the 'Shaker' style an...

Festool Domino XL and Exterior Doors..

Thanks for the feedback guys. Much of what has been said kind of reflects my own opinions (gut feelings) so it's nice to hear that others think kind of the same way. All of the advice given makes good sense. Overall I'd imagine that a well made door using appropriately sized Dominos is every bit...

Festool Domino XL and Exterior Doors..

I know that this issue has arisen before, mostly it would appear in the sense that someone asks if using a Domino is OK for an exterior door and then everyone gives an opinion (which is fair enough). My question is almost the same, but I don't really want the opinions. What I want to know is...

Router table end grain sled jig thingy.......

I'm about to embark on the making of some shaker doors for a bunch of kitchen cabinets and having bought a cutter set from Wealden I'm all set to go except.... When I've done this in the past I've just used the mitre fence in the slot and held on tight to the rail whilst routing a tongue on the...

    Cheapest place for dominos?

+1 for Nuts and Bolts. I used to use FFX but after a bad experience with a faulty mitre saw switched over to N & B. Better prices, faultless service and they really know their stuff when it comes to all things Festool.

Lifting MDF (or aaagghhh!!!....my backs gone pop!!)

The responses keep coming in - I guess this is something that a lot of us have given thought to or have struggled with. To answer some of the questions/statements..... Cutting on the floor sounds like a sensible option on the face of it, however what I neglected to mention is that due to years...

Lifting MDF (or aaagghhh!!!....my backs gone pop!!)

Glynne, that's extremely generous of you. Is it one of these? (or similar) If so I'd be extremely grateful.

Lifting MDF (or aaagghhh!!!....my backs gone pop!!)

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm particularly liking the role wheelie thingy Jack posted. First thing is to try out one of the many board lifters (seem cheap enough) and then maybe have a go at the full on device. Once again thanks one and all. Pete

Lifting MDF (or aaagghhh!!!....my backs gone pop!!)

Being a regular user of MDF sheets, mostly 18mm, sometimes 25mm and normally Medite (generally a bit heavier than Caber I believe) with a somewhat injury - prone back and shoulder I was wondering if any of you had any ideas of an easier way of lifting MDF sheets from the usual stacked position...

    18mm mdf over a 1200mm span

Lower the sides by either 18mm or 36mm and then add an extra one or two layers of MDF to the top. I made some desks for my old construction company offices like this and then put a 10mm x 36mm hardwood strip on the front edge. No sag over 1.5m span

Year 10 slowly getting the hang of it.

I, like many others am seriously impressed by these beautiful segmented turnings. Would it be possible for you to post a WIP of the next ones showing how you make up the blank? I know it's said that one should not see certain things being made (sausages and laws I believe) but I'd love to know...
