    Is this a dangerous cut?

I'm interested in the opinion of the woodworking collective on an issue of safety. The picture shows setup for machining a tongue on a piece of 25mm thick MDF 100mm wide. There is no insert ring as it would catch on the cutter. The cut is to be made by hand. Opinions please. By the way...

When did the world go mad for Festool?

As the owner of a fair bit of Festool kit (both Dominos, TS55 track saw and about eight or nine rails of various lengths, Sanders, Drill drivers MFT 3, extractors etc etc) my ow view is that they are extremely well built, well designed and innovative tools aimed squarely at the professional. The...

    Oak Dining Table

Personally I wouldn't put a radius on the top - it would be at odds with the square taper of the legs to my eye. But that's just my eye - others may feel differently. Nice work - looks well proportioned.

Wax on Oil on Euro Oak......I'm dithering

The main reason for using the products mentioned are because they are what I have available and I can't go spending on any more tins of stuff right now - the budget for furniture for our home is now officially zero due to other unforeseen monetary crises. I've heard lot about Oslo Polyx and...

Wax on Oil on Euro Oak......I'm dithering

I'm planning on finishing off a cabinet made from Euro Oak with Liberon Pure Tung Oil, wiped on with a bit of old T shirt and then wiped over to remove the excess. Then it'll get 24 hrs to dry. Then the plan is to wipe on some Colron Refined Beeswax (old T shirt agin) and again wipe off excess...

    Ash Strips

Agreed about difficult putting through a thicknesser. One way round this that I've used successfully in the past is to fix a piece of 18mm MDF to the bed of my thicknesser (Hammer A3 26) with d/s tape and then pass them through on that. I've successfully managed 2mm strips at 2400 long with...

Check out this company... http://www.screwsline.co.uk I've used them before to get hold of some old brass screws and they came up trumps. HTH

    Filler for Oak

I'm on the verge (ha ha) of completing an Oak cabinet to house a bunch of HiFi kit. It's built from Euro Oak. A friend suggested Tung Oil and then Wax as a finish - I'll try that out on some scraps first. The real question is does anyone know of a decent filler for Euro oak. One of the cabinet...

Hi. I have no interest in turning whatsoever - haven't even read your question. But I do think that CosmicNacho is the best name on the entire forum. Absolutely love it.

    Patio Table

"The table would roughly use 6 of them. One of the concern i have is how heavy would it be?' It'll probably feel like it's screwed to the patio. Like Custard said that ain't going nowhere on a windy day.

    Where to find good hardware.....

Thanks people - some excellent links there - just what I'm looking for. MMUK, if you're still reading this thread, I like the sound of your idea for a pin or dowel hinge although I'm not quite sure that I fully understand how this would work. If you're up for it could you explain it as though...

    Where to find good hardware.....

I am about to complete a small Shaker style cabinet in Euro Oak and have started hunting around for some suitable hinges for the doors. Now I don't profess to have a detailed knowledge of all things Shaker but I'm guessing that brushed satin stainless or fake antique brass are not going to give...

I've just taken a punt on this PHOTOS

You could be right. The flush trim bit was painted a particularly garish shade of Snot green and was wrapped in one of those shrink wrapped plastic type packages that look easy to open but require a machete or a chainsaw - I remember it well because he cut his finger getting it out. Glad your...

Aldi Air Compressor and Air tools this Thursday - Discussion

I run a Clarke Bandit (two of them actually) One stays in the 'shop and gets used for nailing and headless pinning and of course air dusting. The other is in the van and gets used on site for second fix work. It's fairly easy to lug around and I've never done a thing to it - not even drained the...

    Drilling jig advice

If you're still looking then you might want to consider this... https://www.festool.co.uk/Products/Acce ... try-GD-460 Given the quality of their tools I'd imagine that this is probably the daddy of all drilling jigs (of this particular type)

tool for cutting 38cm squares ?

   And I need glasses.... Although having said that ..... Any decent table saw will allow you to cut a 380mm rip. :D Mitre saw bit will probably not be possible unless you have one with a seriously large crosscut capacity. If you have an MFT3 and a Festool tracksaw then...
