Colron stains from B&Q and other moans!

Vote with your feet. I never go near the sheds after a string of similar experiences of own brand stuff being utter toilet.

    best grain filler ?

Best thing is to paint on PVA glue to the edge and then sand it once dry. Once is usually enough but if not then repeat.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Finally finished a project I've been working on for what seems like ages. I posted about it back in June: fitting-cabinet-doors-t90045.html Anyway, the doors got sorted, the Osmo oil applied and SWIMBO is happy. So am I - I hate projects hanging around the workshop taking up space - I reckon...

    Transitional: the smoother.

Nah. Don't bother fixing it. It'll never make you happy. Send it to me instead. =P~ =P~

    Coffee table WIP (ish)

Osmo Top Oil. 3 coats. I only sanded to 150g on the advice of Osmo techys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Coffee table WIP (ish)

I just realised I din't post any pictures of the finished piece. Here's a few.

    Coffee table WIP (ish)

Thanks. The client was delighted with it. I don't care why they want it. It pays my mortgage. :)

    Coffee table WIP (ish)

Marcros, I just tilted the blade by 15 degrees and then left it set and locked. The rationale being that it kept the cuts dead on consistent in terms of angle. To get around the breakout issue I used masking tape on both sides of the cut line. Having made a few of these now I would probably...

Where do you get your tape measure from?

This looks like the beginnings of a separate debate - metric (what Jesus would use) vs imperial (useful for Hobbit holes and guessing the size of trees) Bring it on....

Which Planer/thicknesser is the best for Startup?

For what it's worth here's my contribution: My 2 year old P/T ( a Hammer A3260) recently started giving dodgy results. To keep work going I broke out the hand planes and discovered something remarkable - hand planing ain't that hard. I now know that I'm not dependent on my machines (although...

Where do you get your tape measure from?

I buy the Advent Vice Versa ones from Axi. Metric only (I refuse to use ancient elvish measurements) and they run from both right to left and left to right. Very useful indeed.

    Laurel Wood?

So should be alright for knocking up a few homemade WMDs then.

    Sharing hand tools

Tell him that you never wash your hands after going to the loo as you're of the opinion that 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger'. That'd stop me from using them and I actually agree with the saying!!

Round Table question - An Update.

Any takers? Are my table making suggestions that strange?

Round Table question - An Update.

Maybe I should have said 'Any useful thoughts people'

Round Table question - An Update.

So now the design has been finalised, mock up's have been mocked up and we're all set to go but......... I need some advice on a couple of the elements if you would all be so kind. Firstly, here's a (very quick and dirty) sketch up view of the design: The central column supporting the table...

    I've been framed!!

Personally I think your patois qualifies you as first class instructor on a green oak framing course. I went on one last year and the guy leading it was as dull as ditch water. I actually came away feeling a bit depressed. I think 'sticky out bit' and 'hole' is a far more descriptive name for an...

What's in your first aid arsenal?

Duct tape works well for when the chisel skips and stabs your hand. Mitre Bond normally holds up until you get seen at A&E. A (rather eccentric) friend of mine insists on pissing on every scratch and cut he gets at work - he's a lumberjack so gets cut quite often. And he stinks like a car-park...

    Bread -n- Butter Job

I think there are two things to consider here: 1. Most of us these days are not as 'motivated' as they were in times of old. We live relatively comfortable lives and are not in fear of our jobs as much as they used to be. If we do lose our job we have got a safety net. We expect to have to work...
