Circles on a table saw :0

Maybe it's just me but I can't see what is dangerous about that. Doesn't look any worse than using a straightforward crosscut sled. I think it's a smart solution.

Anti brain melting cutting list calculation software

Does it optimise your panels so as to use the minimum number of sheets?

Coffee table - and a lesson learned

Thanks for all the kind comments guys - it means a lot considering the incredible talent present on this forum. Nelsun - it's not that I burn wood gratuitously you understand. I always seem to end up with offcuts that are too small to store on the rack and too big to fit in the woodburner. I...

Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

Steve, regarding the 'photos - not sure if you're on a Mac or PC, but if on a Mac there's a little App called Resize sense which can do batch resizing. Presets can be set up for both the size, naming and locations. As for the white balance and exposure you can achieve similar results by...

    Daft debate...... Trifle

Nope. Definitely custard. Sometimes with a spoonful of jam.

Really??? Thats something I'd like to see.

    Daft debate...... Trifle

I know it's not Trifle, and slightly off topic but I once worked with a guy (JCB driver) who used to have a plate of Kippers with Custard every friday morning in the cafe. It totally put me off my fry -up.

    WIP Saw Bench ala Schwartz

When I did my 'prenticship it was standard practice for all newbies on site to make one 'a la Schwarz'. Much more interesting to make with the angled leg joints and all that. The modern version doesn't really say anything about ones skills as a carpenter but you can keep A LOT OF CRAP in the...

+1 for cutlist. If you use sketchup then there is a free extension to export your drawing into cutlist. Very useful

    WIP Saw Bench ala Schwartz

This is slightly less "trad" version we use on site. The notch also helps hold doors on edge for shooting in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Teensy chisel

I started reading this thread thinking 'who on earth would need a 3mm chisel' and generally snorting and huffing to myself about 'tool junkies' etc etc. Now I need a 3mm chisel. Really. I do. So if any of you fantastic collectors of small and weeny chisels want to sell me one......

    Automatic Cupboard Latches

If by automatic latches you mean the magnetic push to open type then they are normally fitted in conjunction with unsprung hinges. Check out Blum website.

    Squeaking stairs...

Possibly the wedges under the treads have come loose. You'll have to get rear access to fix it I'm afraid. Someone else will probably have a better idea though.

Carpenters Apron - new design - feedback desired

I wear Snickers work trousers with holster pockets (I suspect these are becoming more and more popular in workshops - they've certainly caught on on sites over the last 10 years) and they cater for everything I need to have about my person - pocket knife, tape measure, pencil, **** and lighter...

Coffee table - and a lesson learned

Just given it a coat (first of three or four probably) of Osmo Top Matt Clear. Although the picture doesn't really show it really makes the subtle colours of the Tulip Wood glow, and the contrast with the Sapele looks excellent (imho). A lesson I've learned from this though is that just...

D&M Tool Show 9th -11th October (UKW MEET on FRIDAY at 2pm)

I'll be there on Friday. Definitely buying the Record BS400 Bandsaw - now slightly worried that I may walk out having sold the children or my kidneys to pay for some Festool goodies.

The Block was £41 and the smoother was £58. Both in mint condition.

Coffee table - and a lesson learned

Droogs, you're right about the smoother - it's an absolute beauty. It does have the Lignum sole (as does the block plane). I've only had it for two days and this was the first job I used it on - to smooth down the sapele strip to be flush with the rest of the boards. It was incredibly easy to...
