    Plane (and sharpening) training?

I'm pretty sure that if you check with Jacob he'll confirm that parsnip stropping is a new fangled invention that's totally unnecessary. No one did it with any other root vegetable in the past - just carrots. But hey, if you want to 'waste' your money on parsnips and the like go ahead. It...

    Plane (and sharpening) training?

Not sure what this adds to the discussion but here goes. I have a variety of methods and combine the use of a Tormek, a Veritas Honing guide and freehand. I tend to use the Tormek when things have got in bit of a state. At the bench I flit between freehand (whilst working and trying to make...

D&M Tool Show 9th -11th October (UKW MEET on FRIDAY at 2pm)

I was 'delayed' by a rather good cheeseburger so got upstairs for 2:10. No one there though. I did get a personal demonstration of 'psycho-turning'- from the Sales Director of Record Power - I explained that as a newbie to turning I had difficulties with my spindle roughing gouge and he...

Kitchen Cabinet router set and questions

I've used this set before quite successfully from Wealden http://www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/Onl ... t_260.html Although now having acquired a spindle moulder I use that most of the time.

    Bluetooth ear defenders at last.

So I'm wondering if I can get the Workshop Macbook Pro to push the output from Spotify to those little beauties. If so I'll buy 'em tomorrow.

    Bedroom wardrobe - WIP

I use the Blumotion Movento runners. Very pricey but also very smooth running and loads of adjustment in all dimensions (or 3 of them at least!) The dimensions you need to know are the internal cabinet width and the internal cabinet depth. If the drawers are overlaying the carcass sides then...

    Workshop Essentials Festool Domino Jig

My missus says I'm extremely trying. But then she also says that absent minded nose-picking whilst watching TV is a disgusting habit, proving she doesn't know what she's talking about.

3mm Bevel Edged Chisel - Really?

Don't be daft. Once I've glued on my cracked and hollowed Norton India stone alongside a strip of my old granddads leather belt it'll make a top-class hand sharpening station. Then I'll hang it on the wall.

3mm Bevel Edged Chisel - Really?

I've just added to my collection of stuff I'll never use again - a discounted Axminster Dovetail Jig. Only £50 but an unmitigated piece of sh*t. It's engineered with the precision of a turd and is almost impossible to set it up square. There is so much flex in the template that you could use it...

    Plane (and sharpening) training?

Not that shaving my arm is the aim of my sharpening, but I normally only bother with going to 1000 g and I can shave my arms no problem. Either you have extremely tough arm hair or mine is super soft. Or something else.......

Sploo, as someone who regularly conducts business using Hob Nobs as the preferred currency, Randoms offer is one you shouldn't turn down. Personally I'd also take Matthew up on his offer too - he doesn't even ask for something as lowly as Rich Tea let alone Hob Nobs!! You can't go wrong.

Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

Beautiful. can we see a paisley pattern version too please. Not sure why but pink looks happy and yellow looks sad. Any colour theorists here that can explain this. Of course it could be a bit of wobble in photoshop....

Never realised how I would miss internet connection

John, welcome to the light! Leaving the Darkside can cause some temporary confusion and mild disorientation but ultimately you are now on the path to fulfilment and happiness. New iMacs come with a cordless keyboard which if I'm not mistaken is a cut down version of a standard keyboard, more...

Hardwood suppliers, drivable distance to Oxford.

If 98.3 miles is OK (according to Google Maps) then try Timberline in Tonbridge in Kent. Clicky clicky below for a list of their hardwoods. I've heard it said that they can get you pretty much anything. http://www.exotichardwoods.co.uk/Woods_List/index.asp
