Carborundum Company Manchester , Stone grade

Thanks for that, yes the company started in America in 1895, and they opened factories in Germany then Trafford Park I hadn't thought to look at archive.org for a catalogue, I use it all the time so should have checked there The box is a standard cardboard one of which there are quite a few...

    AWFS18 Start up

Never heard that one before, turning the speed down every time you stop? ridiculous When I have had the need to phone Axminster they have always been very helpful, but then I haven't bought a new machine from them Personally I would try again and if you get the same person ask for someone...

    buttons

My wife is a knitter/crocheter etc and asked if I could make some wooden buttons, just plain round ones In my case I just used dowel for some, then drilled the holes One thing I did find, is that drilling four holes equally spaced was not as easy as I had envisaged ;-) Two holes are way...

    AWFS18 Start up

Mine starts at the speed its set to, sounds like you may have a problem there I would certainly report it and seek advice from the supplier (presumably Axminster?) Do it while its under warranty Perhaps make a small video to send to explain the problem better Could be something and nothing...

Quick release clamp for Hegner Multicut 1

A wing nut (or knob ;-) will do a job to a point Been there got that T shirt ;-) But a quick clamp, is far better, the main reason is the rotating part on the end of the threaded part through the clamp, so the blade can swivel while being clamped You will get a lot more blade breakage...

    Which saw?

You asked if there was anything else you might need The one thing I don't think you have mentioned is patterns Some like to make their own, others just use other peoples patterns, bought and free If you haven't already found it, get acquainted with Steve Goods site...

    Which saw?

Hmm, the only thing you would need is one quick clamp at £24 nothing else and it frees up one standard v block clamp so that enables you set up several blades ready for use On the peaugeot V Hegner, subjective certainly but its like saying I drove a rolls royce for 20 years and then bought a...

    Which saw?

Did you try the Hegner clone? I have its earlier version and when I bought it put it on the stand, meaning to bolt it down but wanted to try it out Its still just sat on top of the stand, hasn't moved an inch, never needed to bolt it down Can't comment on the Excalibur as haven't tried one

    Advice on Hegner Saw

I have an AWFS18 which is a Hegner clone I use it with a quick clamp, I use almost exclusively Pegas blades but haven't needed to buy any for a while so am not aware of any "notched" blades The instructions for the quick clamp are to keep the knurled knob locked down on it, its fairly...

    Which saw?

Rather like most things in life, you (mostly) get what you pay for It depends mostly on your budget Up to say £200 save yourself the grief and get an Aldi (Scheppach rebadged) £70 retail often knocked down after, I have seen them to £60 and once at £50 Its a reasonable started machine and...

AWFS18 - finally managed to get one.

I think the only difference between the older part number and the new, is I think the new would have the tension lever upgraded bearings fitted I thought they were selling the AWFS18 supplied with a quick clamp , but can't see it listed under the new part number description That quick clamp...

AWFS18 - finally managed to get one.

Personally I have no need at all for a foot switch, some seem to like them but I cannot see the point myself I mentioned that your photo does not show the NVR switch which it would have been supplied with, if its been bypassed you could fit a foot switch, but if it still have the NVR switch...

AWFS18 - finally managed to get one.

Oh, be as cheeky as you like ;-) The AWFS18 is now sold under the number AT460SS by Axminster On their site under the Trade Classification & 3 Year Guarantee detail is a "Show more +" Clicking that gets you the User Manual, the Health & Safety blurb and "User Manual 2" Which I found to be...

AWFS18 - finally managed to get one.

Glad you managed to get one and at a very good price too Two modifications if you can call them that The upper quick clamp is not essential but you will not regret getting one as they make life so much better They are expensive at about £24 plus postage unless you manage to pick up a second...
