    Bartering goods, skills, time, etc.

We make our own oatcakes too - they're on the shelves in Morrisons sometimes, but it's cheaper and more fun to make them yourself! We make ours in a bog standard nonstick frying pan, and toss them like pancakes. Fill 'em with bacon and cheese and they're delicious. The only difference...

The Ups and Downs ...mainly Downs..of selling a flat.

I did the probate for an aunt who died a couple of years ago, and the local council allowed a 9 month council tax holiday following her death. We managed to sell her house just before the end of that period! I don't know whether that is a universal policy, or even still current policy there...

    Which floor standing pillar drill?

I recently bought the AT340 bench mounted drill - the baby brother of the one you mentioned. Does exactly what I need it to, can't fault it. Its blimmin heavy tho', so not something to move once it's in position; the one you're considering is twice as heavy, so you might need some help to...

    Espresso

Interesting - not heard of that before. How long can you freeze it for? Do you defrost it in daily batches? I assume you have to defrost it and can't grind frozen beans???

    Google Ads

Its horses for courses of course - I tend to think that Facebook is 'last years thing' generally, but we used it to advertise a sale locally, and it was fantastically successful - one post from us was shared several thousand times in 3 days, and our shelves were cleared!

    Google Ads

Just be careful that you have targeted your ads very carefully - its possible to rack up big bills very quickly if not (DAMHIKT!).

Record Power Sabre 350 bandsaw dust extraction

Thanks guys. I was hoping for 'I've got dx on mine and it works a treat', so not exactly the replies I was looking for, but not really a surprise either! Looks like I'll have to get creative then. There seems to be plenty of space under the table on this saw, so hopefully it wont be too...

Record Power Sabre 350 bandsaw dust extraction

Yeah, I know its important, and I'm pretty paranoid about it, which is why I'm probably overthinking the solution! But it does beg the question, why don't tool manufacturers build in better dust collection facilities, why do users need to mess about with home grown solutions??

Record Power Sabre 350 bandsaw dust extraction

I took delivery of my new Record Sabre 350 bandsaw last week (cracking bit of kit btw!) and am now turning my mind to dust extraction. Deciding whether its worth it, and if so which sort to buy is proving harder than choosing the saw! I've used the search facility and read lots of old posts...

    Bliss....

It was a cracking bit of workmanship, but he must have been properly upset when he had to re-rout the glazing bars at the end to accommodate double glazing units. They also looked alarmingly thin to me then, given the weight of all the dg units he'd have to fit.

Best place to get wood near me? (Telford, Shropshire)

Marcros is probably right - a trip to Potters is worth it just to see what a real timber merchant looks like, but for a couple of saw horses a few lengths of 2"x4" from a builders merchants ought to be fine. A lot of my early projects were made using timber from Travis Perkins....

Best place to get wood near me? (Telford, Shropshire)

Shropshire is very badly supplied for timber merchants! I always travel to Potters in Nantwich, but that's 45 mins for me, probably more than an hour for you. Alternatively, I've heard good things about Great Barr Sawmills, who are probably only (!) 45 mins from you. I'm not aware of...

    what is redwood?

+1 for it being Pinus sylvestris (Scots Pine). That's what the Potters of Nantwich catalogue says it is, and the stuff I've bought from them over the years has aged to that orange shade exactly like the bit in your photo.

    bessey UniKlamps experiences

Got an email from Rutlands this morning, promoting their new own-brand range of clamps - they appear to be re-badged versions of the piher ones you linked to.

    Anyone got a Breadmaker

Yet another +1 for the Panasonic machine. We make bread in ours 2 - 3 times a week, and haven't eaten shop-bought since we bought it. Duchy organic flour (from Waitrose) is expensive, but we've found it to be the best granary flour around; our go-to loaf is 2/3rds duchy granary, 1/3...

employing someone to go to the tip

I think currently the licence is free for green waste only. There's a fee for a licence to transport any other type of waste. But you're right, the licence only allows you to transport the waste legally, there'll be a separate charge at the tip for dropping commercial waste.

employing someone to go to the tip

The rules seem a bit fluid; I think currently he needs a waste carriers licence, but these are free (at the moment!) so the only hassle is applying for one. The 12 loads a year rule mentioned above is a different thing entirely - designed to restrict trade dumping at household sites. Best to...

    Shed/Greenhouse

You might also want to consider how much light you're going to get through the roof and windows. Greenhouses are nearly all glass for a reason - I think you'll have disappointing results growing stuff because your plants wont be getting enough light. If you want a wind resistant cheap growing...

    TransferWise account

Yes, we used to use them to pay foreign suppliers (before we retired last year) and a family member who receives payments from several different countries in a range of currencies also uses them. Prompt, competitive rates (way, way cheaper than high street banks!) no worries at all.

A screw I have not come across before - Decking

It looks the same as a lost tite screw - might be worth a google to see if there's some explanations of how they work
