    Face masks

"Those who fail to comply with the new rules will face a fine of up to £100. This will be reduced to £50 if people pay within 14 days." Why do they put these pathetic fines in place? Like many other fines (e.g disabled parking bays), it's low enough that people will just risk it.

    Face masks

So you're saying we shouldn't encourage people to wear masks as it makes them more complacent? :?:

    Face masks

Surely if they're going to make mask wearing compulsory, then there must be some system in place to provide people with suitable masks in the first place? Else you'll just get people wearing handkerchiefs, or week old painters masks etc which is entirely pointless. Or .... we'll be right back...

Cambering with the Veritas MkII honing guide

Just wondering if people use the normal roller to create a camber (small camber for smoothing planes) or if they use another means? like the additional camber roller? or maybe you default back to using the Eclipse style guides?

    Planer thicknesses buying guide

Peter Parfit (New Brit Workshop) has the NVD750 (hooked up to a cyclone), which is similar to the CGV336-4 CamVac, and according to him, it works just fine with his 310mm Jet Planer Thicknesser, when used with a spiral cutter block (creates smaller shavings that are easier to suck up). And lets...

    Planer thicknesses buying guide

This is one of those "youtube tricks" that I doubt anyone ever actually uses more than once. Trying to do it for a whole project where you need many boards planed would be tedious, and frustating. Not to mention it still doesn't give you a square edge. I can't imagine anyone actually does it...

    Cordless portable doorbell...any good?

You could build a wooden awning for your doorbells :D

I just can't seem to square up sheet goods

What I mean is, as is shown in your video, each time you adjust the track at one end, you pivot/rotate it, and the other end goes slightly out. you're chasing your tail so to speak. Where as if you had two guides, it would be more reliable as you can pull the track to butt it up against two...

    Acceptable accuracy?

out of interest, now perform the test again with different lengths of wood. You'll probably get varing results, as you've tuned the fence to the specifc scenario under which you're testing. Your fence probably has a little bow, and your work piece also a little bow, and it just so happens that...

I just can't seem to square up sheet goods

I would argue that two parallel guides (where one is set from the other) is more accurate than using one that you keep moving back and forth (which just pivots the track) and takes several attempts to get right.

I just can't seem to square up sheet goods

How much longer are these cuts than you speed square? You might have checked your speed square for squareness, but if the cut is 3 times the length of the speedsquare, then any potential error you missed when checking it for squareness is multiplied, and then accumilated over several cuts.

New sliding mitre saw cutting off square

Another common problem with sliding saws is that the further you extend the blade/handle along the rail, the less support it has, and any slight sidways pressure you apply can add very noticeable affects. It's very common, even on the very expensive saws. The only one I am aware of that gets...

    Cheap square angle tolerance

Not to deter the thread, but it also really depends on the size of cut. It should be pretty easy to get a 6" square accurate enough by eye, simply by trial and error. So long as you only use it for 6" or less. I really dont see how those new track saw 90 degree guides can work as well as...

    Pillar drill for awkward shape

you might want to look at how people are making dowel jigs. Same idea as has already been mentioned, a block of wood with bushings, but also includes a clamping aspect, which you need to get securely for accuracy

    Honing Guide

Yeah? I would have thought it would hold better than the ones you can buy for £10 or so. Assuming it still has a slight curve to one side. But no doubt it will still have milling issues. Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk
