    Bosch Multi Tool- Any good?

    I looked at these tools for years and thought they were just a gimmick looking for a role. Then I had to do a job that, as far as I could see, a Multitool was the only option for- cutting a cat flap into a heavily profiled PVc Door. I bought the Bosch corded green one and it did the job. Then a...

    making a table

    Folks I am going to make a dining table for my daughter. It will be about 6ft by 3ft. Probably a simple 4 leg design. I am pretty new to spending lots of money on hardwood to make furniture of this size, so I don't want to make any wrong choices. I will probably use Oak for the legs and rails...

    Pitch pine.

    Brilliant, thanks fellas. I will persevere, now with a degree of enthusiasm. It does plane well, though there are plenty of old nails in it, so need to be careful. Thankfully no worm or rot. Really appreciate yer input

    Pitch pine.

    I have salvaged some pitch pine from a some old church pews. I guess it is around 130 years old judging by the age of the building. Has anyone any experience of using this stuff? I suppose it was the cheapest wood around in the late 1800s, would it be worth using for furniture making today...

    stanley chisels

    Folks first off, this is a great site and I really value the insight and experience of the posters here. In no small way this site has helped ro rekindle my interest in woodwork after a 'career' in big Corporate IT. I'm loving every minute, learning vast amounts from experience (mistakes!) and...

    Kitting out my workshop

    Sounds like I am just a few months ahead of you. I don't have any of the heavy machines like table saw, bandsaw etc. I do have a pillar drill that I got for nothing. I don't have a circular saw, but I do find a jigsaw invaluable. I have a router, but the power tools I use most are my battery...

    Ratchet screwdrivers, Stanley I think.

    Folks, does anyone know if the old style ratchet screwdriver is still available. I have done the usual web search but I can only find the new fangled multi bit ones. The one I am looking for is the type with the button on the barrel for screw in, lock and screw out ratchet, and a single fixed...

    using glue to fix matchboarding

    Thank you. The single bead approach sounds sensible, I'll use that, and maybe supplement with some small brass pins knocked in flush to the surface. Really appreciate your response, thanks

    using glue to fix matchboarding

    Folks I am doing a project out of a teach yourself carpentry book. The project involves the use of glue to fix a matchboard cladding to an MDF carcase. Book says to use plenty of glue to fix the board in place. (I've not used MDF, I've used some boards that look like they were made for as...

    Imperial size hole boring

    Indeed, metric holes are readily available, but the quality has been going down of late. There is nothing like an imperial british made hole for quality.

    Imperial size hole boring

    Hex shank would be fine, it will be going in a power drill.

    Imperial size hole boring

    Folks, I need some very clean edged half inch diameter holes in some thick,oak, does anybody have any going spare? If not I guess I will have to make my own. Thing is I have looked everywhere and can't find any imperial sized augers. I would prefer an auger to a flat bit. Anyone know where I...

    Dominion woodworking tool. Help reqd.

    Well we are done. Sammy I used your technique for getting the bearing onto he shaft (one cold, one hot) worked a dream. BTW, the bearing ID is 3/8in and the OD is 5/8in. Everyting works, just a matter of making some adjustments here and there, and getting an Imperial allen key to install the...

    Dominion woodworking tool. Help reqd.

    Done it! I managed to get the inner ring of the bearing off by heating it with my soldering iron. and levering it off the pin by application of a screwdriver, not pretty but effective. Once the pin is out, the purpose of the slotted end becomes clear: See photo The bearing seats on the larger...
