    FTAGH Oak pieces

Yep, all the same profiles, glad I found someone who can use them. I will be heading over to kibworth harcourt on sat 20th , is that easier for you to get to? We could meet there.

    making a ships ladder

Gentles all, I have been asked by a mate to make something like this as access to a loft workshop over a garage. The garage is separate from his house, so this won't be for a dwelling, though the finished article will need to look good. I plan to make a jig and rout housings for the treads. Then...

    FTAGH Oak pieces

Sorry that the thread title is so vague. These bits were never installed on the final job and are free to anyone willing to collecet from Leamington Spa area in Warwickshire. The radius is about 15ins, there are 8 of them in total. PM if interested.

    Drill bits

I tend to be a bit promiscuous in my purchase of drill bits. I have a set of the Aldi ones and they are not the worst by any means. My best ones are Festool and Famag, I have a set of Hilka - absolute unmitigated trash, dont know why I have not thrown them out yet...

    Router table insert plate

I plan on building a router table this quarter. I looked at inserts and it looks like many of them require drilling to match the router anyway. So I am going to make my own. Get an alloy sheet from aluminium warehouse, cost.about £12.00. Radius the corners, drill the holes and it's done...

    Body-grip cabled jigsaw

I had a low end Makita that had a wobbly cut, so I bought a Festool Trion at the recommendation of my local tool hire shop. This week I have had dead square cuts on 30mm softwood, and a faintly off square cut in 42mm Oak - largely I suspect cos the carbide guide isn't set up properly. I tend to...

    an unusual problem

SB, he is right to store the guns barrel down. 1. Any surfeit of oil drains down the action and barrels away from the wood. Oil used to protect metal will darken and soften the wood over the years if it is allowed to soak in. 2. If he has had the gun cast and drop altered by bending, then...

    an unusual problem

That is eminently fixable, and well usable thereafter. Take a look at Tim greenwoods web site to get a view as to the sort of disasters that can be remedied. I seem to recall that greenwood uses epoxy for repairs cos he thinks it is a superior glue for longevity. Some of the repair could be...

Where to buy timber, and is it really cost effective?

Kirsty, welcome to the Forum and to your membership of a group known as 'woodworkers' Like many on here have said, if you want hardwood furniture, it will be cheaper to buy ready made. However there is a lot to be said for making your own. There is the satisfaction of creating something...

    Axminsters

The store near me offers to grind and sharpen chisels FOC while one waits. I think it is day specific though and I bet they don't do it on a Saturday.... bit if you could delay SWMBO to the right day, you could get a few sharpened chisels out of it. Go to the Veritas area and make a list of...

dust extraction AW10BSB2, axminster 10in table saw

Matt would you say that you get good extraction with your 2hp outfit? I may take a look at a 2hp machine, depending on how big they are. Do you mind me asking what machine you have installed for extraction?

dust extraction AW10BSB2, axminster 10in table saw

Thanks fellas, sounds like I need some industrial level extraction, which I don't have, and am unlikely to have since my ŵorkshop is a fairly cramped garage. I'll have a look at that shroud thing, and if that doesn't help I'll just have to live with it. Thanks for replies

    painted iron?

Try BLO, I know of some Canadians who use it to rust proof new chassis for land rovers. They block the holes, fill the chassis rails and slosh it around to coat all the inner surfaces. May be worth a coat applied on a still evening with not a lot of dust in the air?

dust extraction AW10BSB2, axminster 10in table saw

Folks, I have one of the Axi 10 in table saws, in most respects it is great, save that dust extraction is pretty poor. After a few cuts there will be dust in and under the machine and distributed over the saw table. I have connected all of the internal and external ducting, and the machine is...

    Where to buy wood?

Jim, I use good timber, they are pretty accommodating and will let you sort through their stock for ages. Plenty of other hardwoods too. I have had some boards with worm in the sapwood, so make sure you check carefully and get exactly what you want. All the best with your first project.

    Upcycling

Thanks Andy/Custard. Confirm what I thought, lighting is best left to the larger enterprises. If I see any of these one offs For sale, I may ask the seller of the product compiles with the necessary regulations.

    Upcycling

Fellas I really don't like the lamp planes that have been posted on here, - would rather see the tools put to their proper use. A 100 year old tool is 'upcycled' to meet a need for a current trend. in 5 years time tastes will change and the lamp will be dumped. A pity and a waste of a decent...

    repair to Oak

Custard, thank you, I appreciate yer input. I 'll forget the epoxy and dust approach... Thinking it through I can see why clear epoxy might be an option. I'll definitely glue the piece back in and try the hard was approach. I see that Konig are not far from me in Nuneaton, |I could nip round...

    repair to Oak

fellas, I act as the sort of maintenance man at our local church. I've been asked to have a look at a repair to some Oak. There is a set of curved steps up the main dais, side to side the steps are about 15m, and there are three steps - acres of pristine pale Oak. We have found a small bit of...
