    LV Box

Thank you Stewart it is a great piece of wood which is better in real life as you can really see the grain even better than a photo

    LV Box

Thank you Chas. Certainly will last the wood certainly will take the knocks I have it in the form of bowls balls and have made a carving mallet from one in the past as it will take plenty of stick You need to have sharp tools to work it and take a few extra trips to the sharpening station it...

    LV Box

I was not planning on going in the workshop to turn this as I had something else I wanted to complete. Anyway, this is a box made from Lignum Vitae and measures 4" X 3" to the top of the finial/handle. Sanded to 2000grit using woodwax 22 as a lubricant as I feel it needed nothing else as it...

Vacuum vs. Pressure? - Banksia Nuts

Ideally (not essential)a vacuum pump and cactus juice would be the first stage on a nut, then add resin and put in a pressure pot. Any vacuum pump will allow air to be drawn in slowly if the set up is done correctly it is all about having the correct control valves included in the system

Vacuum vs. Pressure? - Banksia Nuts

Pressure pots are to reduce the size of the bubbles in resin by compressing them so small they can not be so easily seen. If you were to use vacuum pump it would try to extract the air out of the wood and when the resin sets it will be full of bubbles. Vacuum pumps are really used to stabilize...

    Vase

Thank you Steliz and Chas. Burnished the brass sheet with my finger was going to make an antler burnishing stick but with the smell antler produces not a good idea especially with the heat as it is .   Yes it does and uses the same size as the gold leaf but the wood needs...

    Spinning Through the Wood Pile

Looks like some more wood stock for the shed in your previous post and being beech will be a good wood. May have turned out different but is still a good looking pot

    Stuck Morse Taper in headstock

Something I have done on stuck parts similar to this is take two hammers hold one tight against the side of the drive centre and tap the opposite side. After a few taps try the knock out bar again

    Pierced bowl mini WIP

Thank you Duncan and Garno. I used one of THESE but in Axminster white colours with a drill attachment and one of THESE as the cutting bit. Today sees the completion of the piercing now onto the colouring.

    Pierced bowl mini WIP

Decided to have a go at something other than plain bowls as I have not done any decorated pieces for a little while now. I started by turning a bowl with thin walls and bottom about 1/8" all the way around except for the foot which is just a fraction thicker. I divided the lip into six and...

    Tyne Cub lathe issue

Not familiar with that lathe but do you have a picture of the headstock so that we can see what you are looking at as it seems strange not to have a spindle

    Spinning Through the Wood Pile

It is so easy to spoil a nice piece of segmented work by not paying attention to the joints which you don't have that problem, paying that little more attention at the cutting and sanding of each joint pays off as your work also shows.

    Spinning Through the Wood Pile

Wish I could get and do the garden again it seems the older I get the more my body complains. Anyway another one which I am sure will not be long finding a new home. Nice clean lines and joints

    First go at inside-out turning.

Everything seems to line up shape will come with practice. Even so the shape is not bad at all

    Spinning Through the Wood Pile

I am getting some done but it is taking a couple of days to finish a single piece. One of my recent pieces I had to hand rub down and recoat as I found the finish not up to scratch. I can imagine the fun clamping slanting pieces without them moving
