    Machine maintenance advice

My (even older!) Lurem C200 has separate motors for planer and for saw, but I thought the later ones only had a single motor? Or is my memory totally faulty?

    Bushes to box off?

Had wondered about beech, but hornbeam is possibly even better, as it holds its leaves for longer over winter (though my daughteer hates if for this and says it looks dead and depressing!). Nice timber for turning, though!

    Bushes to box off?

Depending on the situation, what about hawthorn? Best rural hedging plant there is, but may look a bit rustic in an urban setting. Relatively quick growing and if you can let it grow up to a couple of metres and then lay it, it can be "bull strong and pig tight", as in an old Herefordshire...

    Metalworking lathe buying advice

The problem with the Chinese ones seems to be quality control as usual. You CAN get a good one, but they bought one at work years back and it was a disaster. The "OK-ish" ones are the problem; you don't find out what's wrong until too late!

    Lets talk hedge trimmers.

If the hedge is more than a couple of metres high, borrow a tripod ladder. Just borrowed one from a friend to prune our "orchard", and it makes an enormous difference to speed and safety. It's possible you can hire one, but failed to find anywhere with one near Aberdeen, and they aren't cheap.

Not helpful to me, but should add to the daughters' inheritance!

    Pentax K10D Battery advice needed

The ones recommended are unlikely to allow autofocus, so you'll need to relearn the skill of manual focussing. The ease of this seems to vary between cameras. My old *istDS is definitely easier to focus manually than the K30. Using extension tubes, a tripod will also be almost essential.

Bargain Alert - Ikea £1 Aluminium Extrusions - DIY MFT Style Clamping

No, never had an Ikea, and John Lewis departed earlier this year. There's still capital up Deeside, but spending money seems tight. Maybe when the oil industry switches to renewables....................................

I wonder - did either of your Dads own a Super 7, 'cos the one sitting in my workshop came from Potton many years ago!

    Pentax K10D Battery advice needed

There's an excellent Pentax forum on the web (can't remember the url, which is on my tablet somewhere) but that has reviews of most of the Pentax compatible (and unaffordable for a pensioner!!) macro lenses and everything else. That's where I found the instructions for replacing the Chinese...

    Water pistol recommendations

In a similar vein, any suggestions, acceptable to a squeamish wife, for getting rid of rabbits? Most of the time, our neighbourhood foxes and possibly badgers keep them under control, but one has currently avoided my allies. Any recommendations in the catapult area? Recapture my long lost...

    Pentax K10D Battery advice needed

Think my favourite Pentax was an MX, which I used quite a lot at work. Until some toerag spotted it when I'd left it in an unwise place and disappeared with it. Reported it to the polis, and then got accused by them of trespassing on my place of work, because they went to reception and asked...

    Pentax K10D Battery advice needed

Interesting that my rebuilt K30 only has a 1050mAh battery as standard. It seems to last pretty well in use, so a 2300 one ought to be even better. Glad to see there are other eccentrics out there still using Pentax kit!! My first Pentax must have joined me at least 50 years ago.

1986 ELU TGS 172 back to work

Picked up a similar one about ten years ago from Fochabers, so possibly just beat you to it! Can confirm they are superb bits of kit. Mine's 110V and had been used professionally, but no real signs of wear. After a bit of rootling in the vendor's van he found the crown guard and various other...

And another what is this tools called/used for post?

Certainly looks from the handle shape as if it was meant for pushing through something to make a hole, prior to stitching. But since it's about 1/4" diameter, it would be one heck of a hole!

    Hiab project

Using that setup for business purposes, do you have to have it officially tested? Guessing it's not part of a standard MoT! But looks like a marvellous job. When I bought my secondhand oil tank from a site about 10 feet below a very narrow road, the guy delivering the replacement tank had a...
