    Record DML 24X bed bars

ou haven't said what the bars are Rob? They need to be very stiff or you will get a lot of vibration through them. My CL1 has the solid bars and they can rattle if the job is out of ballance. The DML24X was my first, and only other lathe, and it's a very good machine. Good luck and welcome to...

is there any reason why I can't ...

That sounds an interesting idea Phil. I look forward to seeing some of the photos. When I was living in France the top notch roof guttering and pipe work is zinc. It lasts for ever and is as soft as poo  It solders very easily and if you put a gas torch on iy t a moment too long you...

is there any reason why I can't ...

Pewter, brittle??? Not any of the pewter I have ever drank out of and I carry my pewter pot in my car and have done so since I got back from Singapore in 1969.  There is only a tiny amount of lead in pewter and the alloy is a lot harder than lead, but not brittle.

    Forstner Drill Bits

That link askes for you to click on to give your permission to pass on info to any advertisers they wish. Sorry, but I wouldn't go anywhere near it. I get enough carp as it is. As for sharpening Forstner bits, I have a pocket DMT diamond whet stone that I bought from Axminster Power Tools...

One of the things I haven't done with ours is to connect it to our iMac. There's no way I'm going to spend well over 100 beer tokens to do that!  The OS one there would do all you want to from what I can see?

    Hawthorne Log

I have to agree that it looks very interesting too! It's amazing what you can find in a lump of old wood and I remember once at a craft fair when a young boy asked me how I knew that that bowl was inside a lump of wood

Origan Scientific is another option? https://store.oregonscientific.com/uk/c ... creen.html They do several models and although I went away from them after I had a problem they are good. Shame about the service I didn't get from them, but that was after several years of use.

    Hawthorne Log

To me there is a lovely bowl lurking in the root ball, but probably a fair few stones too? So a very good clean out needed. The rest? I would have to have a close look at it me-thinks, but what a lovely find! Good luck with it.

    The Art of Wadkin

Damien Hurst wouldn't think it's art. No blood/dead cows/sheep/brains/etc  As for wood turning not being art? Do you reckon they could talk sat down on what they talk out of?

    Mattresses

as in my post up a bit. We got rid of our latex mattress just before Christmas, complete with the mem foam topper. Even with the topper it was too hard and the foam ensemble just made it too dammed hot to boot. We now have our new CottonSafe no chemical mattress and it is very comfortable...

    Thread chasing jigs

A while back I made my own thread chaser. It was a few bits of kitchen worktop, some 3/4 19 (I think) threaded bar, that's the thread on my Record CL1, some aly 'L' shape and a 60º cutter. I did a little with it then was sidetracked. Now I'm settled again I will go back to playing with it. The...
