    1st proper project - HELP!!

I don’t have any Festool tools. (Probably due to the price of them) I do own quite a lot of Makita tools and the only thing ever gone wrong over the last 15 years is the electric brake on both mitre saws. Not bad going. Also, Makita still has the widest range of battery tools.

    1st proper project - HELP!!

I agree. You can get quite far with just a circular saw and a straight edge. I use my cordless circular saw everyday to cut boards of pine into manageable pieces but I couldn't be without my table saw. I mainly make toy chests and use a circular saw for the cross cuts and a table saw for the...

    1st proper project - HELP!!

Not sure if TP sells it. I would talk to your local supplier and see if they can get it in. The main importer round our way is Optimum Timber in Mexborough. Where are you located in Yorkshire? If you're close you're welcome to pick one of my off cuts up so you can get a feel working with the...

    1st proper project - HELP!!

I get it from my local wood shop. It’s called laminated pine which is solid pine strips glued together to make a board.

    1st proper project - HELP!!

Have a look for laminated pine boards. I use it all the time and pay £25.00 a sheet (3000x600)

Took the 'plunge' and bought a cordless router...

I'm not surprised. It's an excellent tool. I only use it once a day for 10-15 minutes but love it. I have some doors to hang over Christmas at the inlaws. This'll come in handy together with the newly acquired 18v planer. Kind of sad looking forward using your power tools...

No worries. I’ve bought most of the bits now to complete the package. It really is a great piece of kit.

    Lumberjack or Record Power bandsaw

I have the Record Power BS250 and it's a pretty solid machine. Dust extraction is not great but I don't think I have owned a bandsaw where the dust extraction was great. LumberJack seems to me generic tools rebranded like Clarke. LumberJack customer service is 10/10 though. Very nice company to...

Took the 'plunge' and bought a cordless router...

You have misread my post. I said the dust extraction port should have been included with the plunge base, not the plunge base with the router.

If you have the trimmer base you'll like this guide. It makes a massive difference in stability handheld. https://www.powertools2u.co.uk/makita-1 ... sUQAvD_BwE I didn't buy it from here but you can see what it is and source it cheaper elsewhere. Mine was from buyaparcel at around 11 quid...

    Heated Vests

I have the power bank in your first post. It's good but beware it takes a good 10 hours to charge the thing up every time. Cheers for the feet heater things. I'm wearing 3 pair of socks at the moment...

Cheers. I have the Makita plunge base and the trimmer base came in the package but I doubt I will use that much. I think it will live in the plunge base most of t's life. The Katsu offset base is probably most value compared to the Makita but I'm not sure when I would need one.

Took the 'plunge' and bought a cordless router...

That's some useful info there thanks. I just searched Katsu router base and all 4 different bases came up and look near identical to the Makita ones but less than half the price on some of them. And the plunge base already comes with the guide holder.

That’s a massive difference in price. Just ordered a pair as backup. Thanks Don’t tell me the guides are on there too...

Ah, mine never leave the workshop so it's easier to keep them in good condition.

Yeah, same as the corded version as they use the same bases. Found one for a tenner but really it should've come with the plunge base. Same for the guide. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Makita-Dust- ... 1470274438 Do you have a link for the Amazon ones

    My 1st Router

If it's just for cutting keyholes just go for a cheap router. I have a Clarke one permanently setup with a keyhole cutter and have cut 100s of keyholes and still on my first cutter. The Clarke one is only about 60 quid I think and is fine. I have two of those. One for keyholes and the other for...
