    Probably a similar percentage to an art piece, the raw materials in either will be a small part of the overall price, but likely higher in the plane. The value of a Holtey is in the low numbers produced and the skills of the maker, who is considered by many to be the finest plane maker ever

    Customs duty

    I recently bought the Vicmark 150 chuck and a couple of sets of extra Jaws from Timberbits as it wasn't available over here. Vat was around £80 and import duty £15 ish, payable to DHL once it was in the country

    Lots of horses will bite wooden surfaces when bored. Cribbing is far more serious, where the horse holds onto the surface with its teeth while swallowing air.

    My initial thought was that Marcos, but four wheels carry a man's weight, and the two wheels at the bottom on a centre would have nothing like half that load, or is it the speed that puts you off ?

    Hollow is definitely the way to go. What height is it going to be, or rather what length needs to fit in the lathe if turned as one ? I'm only twenty miles from Sunderland and can vouch for the view :wink:

    Chuck insert wrong thread ?

    I've just received a 1 3/8" x 6 insert for a Vicmark chuck to fit my Wadkin RS and although the diameter looks right and its got the same number of threads per 1/2" it doesn't fit. The threads on the insert are slightly flat at the top could this be all that's different meaning I could get...
