They're forged not cast' so unlikely to incur any damage if you put a piece of wood at either end and gave them a careful tap in the centre to remove the bend

Hollow is definitely the way to go. What height is it going to be, or rather what length needs to fit in the lathe if turned as one ? I'm only twenty miles from Sunderland and can vouch for the view :wink:

I've just received a 1 3/8" x 6 insert for a Vicmark chuck to fit my Wadkin RS and although the diameter looks right and its got the same number of threads per 1/2" it doesn't fit. The threads on the insert are slightly flat at the top could this be all that's different meaning I could get...
