    Tesco / Nestle rant

No, certainly not a wind-up. This is typical of what Nestle say: Thank you for getting back to us, we are sorry that you do not feel we have answered your questions sufficiently. The Gold Blend 300g refill pack has been introduced to replace the 300g glass jar which has been withdrawn from...

    Tesco / Nestle rant

Does anybody know how to actually get a straight answer to a complaint out of Tesco, or Nestle? I have been trying for months - it concerns pricing of Nescafe Gold Blend, and pack sizing. Tesco consistently price promote the glass jar so it is almost always less expensive than the Eco packs...

    The UKW Infill Project

seen the beast in the flesh now... the plane that is. Richard has done a truly amazing job. I confirm it is impossible to see where the dovetails were - absolutely outstanding =D> =D> =D> . An afternoon cutting box and burr oak (courtesy Mac Timbers) - I liked the bur oak a lot, I like the box...

    Marking gauge/veneer slicer construction problem.

Chris - that is a really excellent veneer cutter I think, very nicely done. I have found it hard to get the square hole bang-on, and if it is just slightly off it shows badly. My best efforts are first to mark both sides on thicknessed but oversize stock, making sure I have one square edge and...

    The UKW Infill Project

hi J, sorry been away walking the dog (left). Klaus is right of course. Your screw is a bit 'blingy' (we need to chat about 'less can be more') . Richard's work is exemplary. I was more popular when dog-walking.

    Handrail wreath update

Richard, very well done. It's always good to see the work finished and in-situ I think. And what a place to find it... a really great expression of contemporary/classic interior. And Burberry above the door. Fine work has found its rightful place.

A(nother) box - and some challenges

re plaque, no, outside my scope. Was done by a local free-hand engraver, who went to some trouble to match fonts and get the spacing etc I wanted. They are out there of course, we just need to find them!

A(nother) box - and some challenges

I wish to say a real big thank you to all. I didn't post the pics to attract compliments, but felt I needed to finish the thread. I imagine we all agree that it is the fellow-makers whose opinions carry real weight. I am truly flattered. On a few practical notes, the ebony/walnut was agreed...

A(nother) box - and some challenges

For the sake of completing... done. finished, delivered. I think I may build a new bench next... done with small for now

    Inca 205 v 260

I can now report that the Inca 260 is exactly the same size as the Kity 413 (260mm wheels, 73 1/2" blade etc). I believe the 205 is 59" blade, maybe 8" wheels but don't know. Is it the case that depth under guides is the same, I know the 260 is 6" / 150mm. I think there are a few quirks with the...

Regency fluted leg - tricks please?

Very well found Andy. Odd what we spot... he is so confident on the lathe he works the gouge both ways (getting the planing angle just right). His 2-sided jig for the scratch is what you found before and seems a preferred way of controlling the scratch-stock. But I would still use a one-sided...

Quick Release vice - advice needed

Thank you Paul and Lee... I now need a 52 with QR and dog. It's a good job we all know what we are talking about, outsiders might be baffled :?

Quick Release vice - advice needed

The typical (and common) Record Q/R vice is a 9", and I believe the import patterns are from that one. They are very good indeed, but heavy and deep (by deep I mean from top of jaws to clamp face under, and length into bench underside... just big all over really). I think you could easily fit...

Boxing - how was it made?

I agree mightily impressive - that box insert is made with hand tools, it won't rely on 'adhesives', and it fits to interference/perfect all along. Odd we can all find this level of workmanship on ebay for 'not a lot'... yet so few can replicate it. (Same with many antiques too, not a unique...

    Inca 205 v 260

yes Gerard, that's the one I tried, it seems to be THE Inca community. Maybe now I own one they may let me in... it was a right faff as well, sign up to Yahoo first, then apply. Maybe I need a referral or two. They seem to run it like The Graucho (famous for being just about the hardest club to...

    Inca 205 v 260

Does anyone know the differences please. I have searched online but can't find much at all. I tried to join the Yahoo/Inca group but they never got back (can't blame them really). I have just acquired a 260 (almost by accident) and will be examining the castings alongside the Kity 413 I have...

    This weekends carbooty

Excellent little planes I think. What are the blades, and is there any sign of a makers stamp on body (normally I think on front of toe)? I have a similar coffin that a previous owner adapted into a mini-scrub (big blade camber) and it is a real cracker. I suspect the Yankee is a North Bros...

    postage costs

+1 Interparcel. Just had to mail 2 parcels each 5Kg, about 60cm x 50cm x 20cm - about £9 each, 48 hr delivery from collection, and they come and collect. They also had cheaper options as low as about £6 but it involved printing things etc.

    Chisel Handles

Good list Matthew... can I propose hornbeam? Not pretty but technically a very good material for handles (and gears in mills etc).
