    The UKW Infill Project

Great set of shots Jim. The plane does it all, I'm just yer average user as we all know. The vid at the end is quite short but the Postman Pat theme was a good choice. Sorry 'bout the bench - I have a new one planned soon, maybe a little lower? (No, not that low.) Anyway, a grand plane. No again...

    The UKW Infill Project

Yup, a right good plane that. Richard would be very happy it's got done this well. He'd be perplexed it took a while :) :) ... but pleased. Back of iron needs a bit more flatting/polishing yet so it will only get better, I did want to mod the handle/tote a little but Jim won't let me - 5 mins...

This guy ordered some very cheap planes

Bit late to this, but like many others I'll be more interested when I see him making stuff. Don't know if he laid his own floor but it's ropey.

    Infill Mitre Plane Project

been busy elsewhere rx so slow coming to this. I know the workmanship will be exemplary (as I have one of the router planes from this stable / shed). Nice combination of materials, I too like the padouk once it mellows although with the amount of work here I would maybe have gone for a level up...

Best route for A1 to Killinghall (north of Harrogate)??

I've done this run loads (dad lives in Ripley) - my favourite and I do prefer to avoid Harrogate, is off at the Knaresborough t/off A59*, onto roundabout right into Knaresborough still A59 and through to Ripley B6165. At Ripley r/about left (south) about a mile into Killinghall. I've never had...

The Chair - Towards the Round

Excellent to see this work and the progress. I shall follow this with interest knowing it's going to be very good work, but also because I've been planning a chair with no straight lines anywhere and I need a few tricks!

    Non-through cuts, a "forbidden operation"?

I don't know our local UK/European legislation regarding this, but I see tsaws in many pro shops set-up clearly to make blind cuts. I admit my first thing with a tsaw is remove the hood and drop the riving knife just below the blade top. Regardless of rules if I couldn't do blind cuts I would...

    Wooden planes

Wow Jim, there are a few there I haven't used yet. Is that a row of Baileys I see at the back? I agree with general above, get the moving fillister, very versatile and a basic starter / must-have. I have a few side-beads and use them rarely - depends how often you need side beads, thay...

Making a semi circle cabinet,GRANITE FITTED

Excellent, it's good to see work away from the usual straight lines. Sorry if I've missed this, is it tulipwood carcase? And how is it going to be finished? Also, what is a notcher... don't think I have one of those

    Burl Backsaw build.

Thanks Stewie. A mine of info on backsaw.net! I'd come across the folding technique but it must be very hard to remove all spring and get it really tight, I wondered. The drill press is a possible (in the average workshop) but I know a man with a milling machine  - that may be worth...

    Burl Backsaw build.

Lovely saw, great to see the build and I'm sure it feels good to use. How did your mate cut the very fine slot in the back for the plate? I'm always amazed at the fit Klaus and Pedder get on theirs and I wonder how it is done?

Workshop open week end/ charity event update

What a day! First, big thanks to Richard and Kate for hosting, arranging, setting up and taking the charity initiative. Turns out there were quite a few people there I'd like to have met and chatted to (or for longer) but the hours fly by. I apologise for not donating tools to the charity stall...

    Making one-piece wooden plane

I'm sure that making planes on this scale will be challenging, esp. fitting the wedge. Looks excellent and the maple is nice. What do you use for irons?

    the quarter-tonner

Hi Gerard - yes I thought this was big... until I was speaking to someone yesterday just delivered a sideboard 5.4m long (solid oak) I admit I numbered the 4 tops as I had spent a while checking all 4 were dead square but then in test assembly spent time again getting all 4 to close...

Workshop open week end/ charity event update

Found the thread Richard, should have looked better before. Jim and I plan to 'call by', along with Gary from Hackney Tools. Between the two of them the decks should be clear by noon (our eta is 11.55 approx). What a great shame Holdfast Richard won't be with us.

    Richard T

I posted this about 2 years ago in a Mac thread (Mac timbers, not Richard's ~) It's The Gang of Four: [l/r is Jim, MrT, Emma, Andy the proff] It's an odd World that hangs on to Robert Mugabe far too long but lets go of Richard far too soon.

    The UKW Infill Project

Pleased to see this build re-activated. I was there when the body was handed over and it was definitely for Jim. I'm pretty sure Richard wanted it finished (I could have added 'in a timely fashion') and used. I'm sure you will do it justice. Can I have a go when it's done :) Given the all-over...

    the quarter-tonner

Hi Steve - I will get a pic when next in clients' place. Delivery day was chaos so no pics then. Just discovered I helped start (re-start probably) a quite a lively thread on 'under-pricing' I'll stay out of that one, just try and get the sums closer next time!

    Bargain forstner bits

Are we allowed an occasional off-day? I'll book mine for yesterday then #-o yes indeed, the vernier zero was wrong. All fine on the Forstner front. It was Richard who made the thing that goes in the hole who pointed out to me he made it 57. Oh dear! Friday was the day I delivered the...

    Bargain forstner bits

It's been a long time, but something to report about these bits. Had occasion yesterday to need the 54mm (largest in set). Cuts clean and fine, but discovered it isn't 54 at all. Measures 50.1mm so not even 2". The size down marked 51 is actually about 48mm. Never noticed this before and maybe...
