New SIP 10" Table Saw (Minor Gloat Inside)

The saw looks good. Am I right in thinking its the same machine as this one from Axminster, or is it different? Ed

What to give a ash mallet to drink

I can't claim any credit for the mallet; The plane adjustment hammer on the other hand was entirely made by me and yes it is a joy to use. Ed

What to give a ash mallet to drink

No dents in this one and I've belted the f*ck out of it in the last couple of months. Acrylic infusion is the future. Ed

    A bit controversial from CHT!!!

Because as you develop your skills you realise that the tools you first bought may not suit the way you work. I bought a LN no.5 but realised I preferred a 5.5; the 5 worked fine just not what I wanted. Same comments apply to 2 shoulder planes and a scraper plane - they all worked well but did...

    Planer/thicknesser how accurate?

I'd say thats pretty good. I usually bank on taking things off the thicknesser slightly oversize to finish with a handplane, where 0.1mm is easily removed. Even if you plan to machine to finished size with no hand planing I can't see 0.1mm ever being a problem in any assembly. Ed

    A bit controversial from CHT!!!

I agree the 'heirloom tools' bit is a fairly pretentious strapline to have. However the idea that LN tools have enduring value is valid, as I have sold a number of LN plane for little less than I paid. Ed

I should point out that this little exchange wasn't only directed at Pete - I believe there are others still waiting unless I'm not fully up to date with the status of all transactions. Ed

tool to measure air flow and pressure in ducting?

I think you want a manometer, which I notice Axminster have just started selling for this purpose, at about £50 IIRC. Ed

This is all about communication, most people will accept delay if they know the reasons. I did say that unless there were extenuating circumstances people are abusing the trust of others, which in your case it sounds as though there are. If you have done everything right then the 'flaky' comment...

    Official Secret Santa Picture Thread

Whilst this may be difficult to believe entering February, I understand there are still some Secret Santa obligations unfulfilled. If you are still waiting please post in this thread, no more PM's its time to publicly shame the flaky Santas. If you know you still have something to deliver...

    Fettling an Axminster TS-200 Tablesaw

I used duct tape for most of the awkward sealing jobs on mine, including the moving handle. If I want to cut a bevel I'll just peel it off and then use a new bit after. I do think its worth sealing all you can just to avoid losing all the suck from the system. Ed

I think Pax is the top of the range. Wether its any good or not I don't know... Ed

    A bit controversial from CHT!!!

I can't imagine that either LN or LV are under threat - they both offer products that people want and have large loyal followings. In almost every commodity there are a variety of price points where you can pitch in, with a corresponding quality and brand image. People select where they want to...

    The 'Blokebox' drop-box

I emptied my Camvac, for the first proper time since I bought it, at the weekend and found it about 1/4 full, with relatively little on the cloth filter and nothing on the paper filters. I still use my ADE1200 for planer chips, so the 386 is for fine dust only. In my hobby environment it appears...

    Latest F&C

I find all of the UK woodworking magazines insufficiently substantial to be worth buying. In my early woodworking years I found the magazines to be informative and aspirational, but in time, as observed by others before me, they grow repetitive. I wrote a few articles for F&C but writing the...
