New workshop .......yes, I have stopped dithering

If I was spending some money on a workshop, personally I would do a proper job and cast a concrete base. Although it will cost a bit more, you know from that point onwards that it will do its job. An alternative, which I favour for decks, is concrete blocks set on concrete - a bit more robust...

    Anybody made a skateboard?

I seem to recall reading a blog post about the Roarockit skateboard kit on Matts Basement Workshop last year. I appreciate you don't want a kit, but there may be some ideas you could nick from there. This is the products site; http://www.roarockit.com/ Ed

    Dehumidifiers???

It is possible to over analyse these things. My unscientific experience over 10 years making stuff for my own house (in intermittently heated spaces) is that provided you follow the time established methods of allowing for shrinkage it will be OK. The only problems I have ever had is where I...

    Screwdrivers - Good'ns?

I have Facom, mainly because my local toolshop stocks their stuff and they seem very good. I think they are mainly an engineering / automotive brand like Snap On, but equally suitable for what we do. Ed

    Writing desk WIP

There was a guy at Harrogate demonstrating exactly this on his stall selling sanding drums, unfortunately I can't remember what company it was. As I recall his jig was nothing more than an adjustable fence that he moved up to the sanding drum and ran the piece through. Ed

    Todays woodworking

Well I must admit I have done, but splitting kindling with an axe is a simple pleasure and quite a bit quicker when you get your eye in. Ed

    Todays woodworking

OK well its tenuously woodworking, but it will be starting the home fires burning here for a few weeks. I quite enjoy chopping kindling actually... Ed

    cope back cutting video

You don't mitre internal corners though. I use the saw to make a bevel cut to show the line to follow for the cope cut, which I then do with a coping saw. I think this is the accepted method as Matty said earlier. Ed

    cope back cutting video

I don't think it is any quicker than I could do it with a coping saw on the basis of that video. Ed

Its difficult to see the benefit that using a grinder brings! Ed

Really nice Gasman, I think the inlay adds a subtle definition to the shape of the piece. Its something I've been meaning to have a go at, ever since watching Garrett Hack at West Dean a couple of years ago. Ed

    Teaching woodwork to school kids

run away....... Seriously though, its great people are willing to volunteer and do things like this. I know my own limitations well enough to know I couldn't do it, so I have no advice, but best of luck. Ed

How too router a circular disc?

Keep the wood still and rotate the router is the easiest and safest way to do circles in my view. Thats how this was done; I don't fancy holding the round bit of wood against the cutters rotation personally. Ed

    Roubo Bookstand

Thats really impressive - one of those things that looks simple, but I am quite prepared to believe that its not straightforward to execute! One for a rainy afternoon I think. Ed

How too router a circular disc?

Never having been in the trade I wouldn't know, but even if you are right in what you say, that fact alone doesn't necessarily make it good advice. Ed
