    Thin Parting Tools

Mine worked OK, but do be aware that as you go deeper into the blank, the tool will bind if you don't make a slightly wider relief cut

    Joke thread

I like the story, but my pedantic mother would insist it should have been "mon mari", not "ma marie" Sorry. Hat, coat...

    Nice Ebay site

But let's be honest. There is NEVER an excuse to use artex, surely!?!

    Medullary rays prone to cracking?

Only if you're pull cutting - pushing away uses yer triceps. (Sorry, just being pedantic 😁). Lovely candle holder. And I agree with clogs - get yourself a lathe - definitely easier!

Nice light box, sir. And lovely bowl, too!

    Circle cutters?

I've seen someone use a set of hole cutters with the teeth ground off- seemed to work well. Can't remember where I saw it

    Turning green

Split down middle. Keep them as long as possible, seal ends with paint/pva/ wax, until ready to rough out. When roughing, leave about 10% thicker walls than want, as they will distort. Weigh them after roughing and leave in damp shavings. Weigh every few months. When weight stable, should be...

Stig, That is lovely. Don't worry about not being able to hollow it. It's a stunning artistic piece.

    Hollowing tools

I've got the Crown Revolution, and it seems fine, although I have only had limited use so far and certainly nothing particularly deep. I think one really needs to try before you buy with these sorts of tools - people seem to favour one over another for no obvious reason, assuming they do all...

    Guns,guns, and more Guns

True, but there is some suspicion that a certain member of the family may have recruited his girlfriends from around the school gates. Allegedly 🙊

    Repairs to butcher's block

I also just noticed on the op photo - the bolts second from right are going to do zero to hold the thing together - they may even be the cause of the gapping as they split out the end grain. Send it back, mate

Jet afs-1000 Air filter - Remote

If you PM me, I'll see if mine is still knocking about - I haven't replaced my old machine yet, which blew its motor. Let me know if you want it and I'll stick it in the post of its still around. HTH Greg

    long hole boring kit recommendations

Lazarus and Richard, Thanks for the hints. I had a dig around tinterweb and seems some suggest a brad point bit, but with the point ground off, to stop the point trying to follow the softer grain. Lazarus, I'm happy to go slow and easy. Would you suggest right down to as slow as the lathe...

    long hole boring kit recommendations

Could I dive in on this thread - related, if not exactly on topic. I wanted to make a pen for Bic refills - needs a 4mm bit, that needs to drill a longish blank, as not a two part pen. I've tried several bits, including a more expensive Bosch bit, but cannot get the holes to meet - can...

    Woodturning Advice

In my humble opinion, DEFINITELY get a couple of lessons from a pro, or at least join a club and find one of the members who seems to know what they are talking about, but is not a 'know it all' show off. And do that before you buy - you won't regret it, in my view

    Pricing advice

Phil, I think Paul is probably indicating a bare minimum acceptable rate. I agree with you, though, that you basically have to decide your chosen rate and them work out if you can sell at a price you cover that.
