    I like fixing things

Good points, Terry. But if one has the time and inclination and it's not costing anything or very much, then why not give it a go? One can always replace if unsuccessful

    I like fixing things

Our faithful old Stihl chainsaw blew the spark plug the other day, so after a little cry, my bro and I did a bit of interwebbing and have ordered a little tap and sleeve kit to try. Any helpful views of thread lock to use on the sleeve insert? TIA Greg

    spoons

If you turn a softwood chuck, spindle orientation, with a hollow approx size of the spoon bowl, then cut slots in the end, so you've in effect got a wooden collet chuck. Cut a larger slot in one side so the handle can stick out, and use elastic bands or a jubilee clip to tighten the jaws...

    Creusen slow grinder wheels

I've just seen this: https://www.gatemachinery.com/product/g ... te-700348/ I don't know the firm, but seem to have 100 and 60 grit 40mm white wheels in stock. Might be worth a try. Or this one, https://www.coventry-grinders.co.uk/pro ... ng-wheels/ (though you'd need to enquire as don't seem...

Double garage Dust extraction for lathe

Do a search on here and you'll find LOADS of info and views. I'm still at the learning stage, too, but I'm pretty confident you won't even touch the sides with 150 quid, I'm afraid to say.

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

That's properly exciting! You must be jumping up and down as it starts. One small thought- when we built my single garage/ workshop, we beefed up the ceiling joists and added a trap door, so I've gained some handy storage space in the roof space. Looking forward to watching yours progress

    Wood identification

Hi Chas, It is weird, isn't it. I'll try to get a couple of other pictures and then just hope some blossom of some sort appears. Failing that, I'll have to sneak down one day and lop some more off the trunk and split it to see the grain. It's just in a little side patch by a public footpath...

Thanks, I'll take a look. Funnily enough, it doesn't matter - I just want to know now!

    Wood identification

    Thanks for that thought, Chas - I'll do that next time I'm out and socially distancing :wink: I think the bark is too rough to be Rowan Meanwhile, Here's the bark photo. Hopefully the size reduction doesn't degrade the quality too much (no idea why it's gone on its side!);

    Wood identification

Sadly, Plantsnap didn't find it- just suggested vines or grasses and small bushes. This tree has a trunk about 16 inches diameter at the base. Unfortunately it has been cut 'down' at about 12 feet high, so no overall canopy available as additional clue. I'll try to save the bark photo...

Weirdly, I can't get the bark photo small enough. Any idea how to shrink a android phone photo? (hammer)

    Wood identification

Good people, I've found a tree I cannot ID - please help! Leaves seem to start reddish and as they unfurl they go green. See photos of leaves and bark. Thanks in advance Greg

    Sloping garden solution?

Is it feasible to grade it a bit? I.e. supporting wall at back, then remove some from the front and shift it to the back to achieve a level base? I fully accept this may not be an option. Just an idea.
