    Earthing Dust Extraction Pipes

Inspector Pete, That's really clear advice, thankyou. Am I correct thinking a circular bell mouth good is better than a rectangular one? TIA Greg

    Earthing Dust Extraction Pipes

I'm loving all this- and I hope learning, too! Trouble is, it is clear a little knowledge is a dangerous thing! If I went with a 2 or 3 HP extractor with a 125mm duct, is this worth it as the bandsaw only has 100mm port? (Lathe can have 125 from source). And second question, blast gates near...

    Earthing Dust Extraction Pipes

Cheers, Bob. I think that probably answers it. No plans, likelihood or space for any other 'big' machines. I've been on the Pentz site and it's mostly way over my head - big picture clear, detail not at all. I guess I need to price up 100mm and a 1 - 2 HP extractor with a proper fine...

    Earthing Dust Extraction Pipes

Thanks, Bob I am thinking 2 or 3hp. Was wondering if 3 hp is overkill for say 4 metres ducting, or is it still worth it to shift dust quickly? Filter obviously still required, and planned

    Earthing Dust Extraction Pipes

Good people, If I may jump in with a diameter question that's indirectly related. I'm planning to get a DE and pipe it. Just a bandsaw and lathe next to each other. Should get 125 or 150mm, or will 100mm be enough? TIA Greg

    Workshop draws

I agree - you only need enough for the ones in the wash, whilst you are wearing today's and a spare pair for whilst the other ones are drying :D Sorry. I'll get my hat, coat....

    computer hissy fit

I've no idea what's causing it, but I'm pretty sure you need too upgrade from Vista ASAP. It was always a bit poop and I don't think it's supported now. Sorry mate, just the messenger

Magnetic broom where to get it

Where did you get good priced rare earth magnets? I might have answered my own question, after a web search. But that has raised another - how do you know how much you need? I.e. what sort of' pull' do you need for e.g. behind your grinder, or as a tool holder? Thanks in advance Greg

Pushfit soil pipe as dust extraction

Did you just run a bare copper wire down the inside and connect it at both ends to metallic parts?

Pushfit soil pipe as dust extraction

Cheers Pete, I suspected as much - bit like proper water shut off and ball o fix style limiting flow. Thanks Greg

Pushfit soil pipe as dust extraction

Gents, I'm a little nervous of entering the ducting fray, which might head into a sharpening- style fracas before long, but here goes: On the dustspares website, (thanks for the link- very useful), there are blast gates for 16 odd quid and also butterfly gates at just over 9 quid - is there a...

Something I've been meaning to do

Phil, Cam I jump back in and ask where you got you're threaded tapers? I like the idea of a draw bar for my chuck, and might not have 30 years left in me!

Something I've been meaning to do

"They are easy to pop out - just drill a hole through the bottom of the chuck and put a knockout bar of some description through it. " That confuses me - I thought a draw bar threaded onto the tapered end of the chuck? So how does a hole in the chuck knock it out? Doesn't the bar need un...

    fixing to paving slab

If the top is supported sufficiently and secured by the basket, could the flange be 'glued' with e.g. epoxy resin, to the underside, as it shouldn't be doing and major work - just locating and stabilising the pipe?
