    Which £1500 table saw?

The three saws you are looking at are all quite different. The Jet is a much smaller saw than the others so think about the capacity you want before going for that. I have the Record TS250-RS and quite like it - having a 4' slider in a compact and mobile machine is fairly unique so if you want...

    What Router to buy ?

The JOF001 is the small 1000W one that doesn't feature the full height adjust mechanisms of its bigger siblings. I'm sure it's a great router, but for table use I would look to one of its bigger brothers. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

    What "Dust" do with it?

I'm planning to make a compound lever press from these plans and burn briquettes on my stove: http://home.fuse.net/engineering/ewb_project.htm. There's quite a lot of info on there for making fuel briquettes. You have to mix in with a fibrous material (paper) and press wet though; you can press...

    Rutlands now

I've used them a few times for things and found their service to be fine. In one of my orders there was a couple of things that were listed as in stock and turned out not to be, but I was called by someone within an hour of placing the order to inform me of this and to give me an estimated...

DM Tool show Kempton Park October

Went along today, there are some good deals going. Big purchases in general the discounts weren't stellar, but for smaller items you can grab yourself a bargain. I picked up some Irwin XP clamps on buy one get one free (and the price was already lower than retail), some Bessey clamps at about a...

Independently adjustable in feed and out feed router fences?

The alignment with the Phillips screws you are talking about is to ensure the fence is perpendicular to the work surface (think the same axis as when setting a planer fence at 90° to the top), not to align it with features like mitre slots. To keep the fence parallel with a mitre slot I would...

Independently adjustable in feed and out feed router fences?

The Incra Wonderfence has this ability - you can buy it as part of an LS positioner package or a stand-alone fence which clamps to the table. It's not a hard thing to make yourself though, which is what I'd recommend.

    Home made domino machine...sort of...Video

For a production environment, I completely agree - just buy a Domino. But for the hobbyist, some people actually like making jigs and tools rather than spending a lot of money on a professional grade tool. Speaking personally, I enjoy this aspect of my hobby more than making furniture!

    Non standard dust extraction ports.

If you or a friend have a lathe, why not just turn an adapter from some plastic bar stock?

Router table, insert plate levelling question

I'd use grub-screws in your situation. Only put one in each corner though, more than 4 points of contact and you're just creating problems for yourself when levelling. Sounds like you have a very stiff design for the insert as well so it shouldn't sag. As for the method of including them, I'd...

    Which Jigsaw?

The GST150BCE is a more powerful saw, but doesn't have the extra blade support of the 135BCE or its replacement, the 140BCE. Should still be ok for general purpose work, but for accurate cuts you will find the blade support of the 135/140 makes a difference.

Record Power TS250-RS - assembly, set-up and review

Regarding blade changes and the beam - mine initially came so that when I slid it fully to the front of the saw the blade was completely free. If you think about it though, the beam is 1.32m long but only has 1.25m of travel - so if you have part of that 1.25m of travel used up providing for...

    Specialist tool hire companies?

Coley's router base looks similar to mine, except I didn't build it with a counter-weight. I found it worked very well, follow up with a power sander and you're done. Near the cutter, I built the heel with a 90 degree taper towards the bit for extra support.

    Specialist tool hire companies?

Had a look at one of those machines - how much?!?! I appreciate you pay for quality tools, but charging the price of a decent table saw for a hand held brush motored hand tool is taking the Michael. Faced with the specific task you are contemplating, I would use a simple custom offset router...

Record Power TS250-RS - assembly, set-up and review

Glad you found it useful David. I haven't made any further modifications since, although I have a couple planned. From an accuracy and set up perspective, the most important of these is a new insert for the saw blade. The one that comes with the saw is aluminium and 5mm thick. Unfortunately the...

    Biscuit Jointers

Doesn't this Clarke one generally get positive reviews, despite what the brand/price combo might lead you to believe? http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/bj600-600w-biscuit-jointer-230v

    Flat fronted cabinet doors

Wow, thanks again for all the responses. Sounds like it really is as easy as it seems after all then! I have heard elsewhere that if not using frame & panel construction then the doors can still warp, but I can't (and have no wish to) argue with all your collective experience. Cheers. And...

    Router Lifts

The Triton 1400W and newer model 2000W routers have above-table winders. If looking at the 2000W, check that it's the newer model with the winder. With the exception of the Router Raizer, everything else that's any good appears to be around or more than the cost of a new router with above-table...

    Flat fronted cabinet doors

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like an edge banding is the way to go to make it more knock-resistant and also should have the advantage of being more machinable. Chrispy - I have seen feedback from people constructing Shaker doors out of MDF the cheat's way (thinner full size panel with tacked...

    Flat fronted cabinet doors

We're hopefully moving house soon, and one of the first jobs I've been tasked with by my wife is to refurbish the kitchen cabinets with new doors and worktops. She is very insistent that the doors are flat fronted, with no panel recesses - just flat panels with a round on the edge (this website...
