    JB my timber stock stored had been cut down in lengths to suit box making so other ideas would mean purchase of new timber and I am downsizing kind of.

    Cozzer picture below is a piece of hardwood resawn using the 3/8" blade and it cut well without deviation on line bearings free of blade and back bearing the same but not pushed.

    On that basis have 2 1/2mm spare each edge of blade.

    So if they refuse the job, (last time the fellow had to place a rubber contraption in is mouth, something like a condom) they just walk away and thats it?

    I have had visits from the water people, electric people and now the gas man, they all want to change our meter. First two were no problem but gas man coming in a few days and our gas meter is buried under and in kitchen units installed 20 years ago. They did swap the meter around 12 years ago...

    My experience with bandsaws is not to worry about bearings, I just keep them away from the blade!!!!!!, the backside bearing is more critica,l perhaps you are pushing the timber through to hard, let the blade do the work?.

    Mark, that was a nice looking and handy piece of equipment for books in situ. BTW I think you must have had a unfriendly lump of sapelle it normally works OK, and your dinky workshop I think is super.

    And get the tension right and guides not touching the blade. I have just reduced a 6mm thick mdf 1.32mtrs long that was 174mm wide in half and no deviation at all along the length of the cut.

    Cozzer my experience with bandsaws is to get the blade tension right and blade stays in track on wheels, I set mine very tight (and release when I know I will not need it again that day) The bearings I never seem to worry about as long as they do not touch a blade and mine cuts a straight line...

    Morfa, all the later versions I have seen are geared to supplying structures and running stock etc (and at a cost) whereas MSTS had a section where personal creations could be created and a personal layout was possible and not a train set.
