Thanks, seems really strong, and the colour held its intensity, the experiment was a success. ..

This chunk of Olive burl had some deep inclusions, my idea was to tint a little epoxy and add it to some shredded paper towel to act as a filler... Looks like it's working, I'll be filling the smaller inclusions with a tiny bit of Milliput I have spare.... I'll post final piks....

They say the Olive oil goes rancid, but i've not experienced that, just a little brings out the beautiful grain.

Sometimes Danish oil on the outside and just mineral oil inside,. Or Olive oil inside...

I make quite a few P&M's but only from Olive wood which is really hard, i can't be sure but it seems to me that whatever finish you use would just grind away pretty quickly due to the soft pine below.... ! Maybe a heavy epoxy resin .... i have a feeling even that would not stand up to salt...

I'm actually pretty sure now the Record power live center was also designed as a centering tool, the shape is built-in..... How nice of them, very thoughtful, great engineering....

The live center is supplied with the lathe by Record power, it wouldn't really surprise me if this action was engineered/intended for this purpose.....🤔

Greg, this worked perfectly, the supplied live centre fitted perfectly into the headstock spindle centre.... A superb solution🤟

Thanks for the fine tips chaps, i did make a wooden replica and it seemed to work ok for the first few goes, then not so well..... looks like i'm going to have to invest in a good old steel double ender......
