    White Wood (the quest continues...)

The Spirit Stain White was created mainly to be a mixer to use with our other colours to make pastel shades. It can be used as a stain in its own right, make sure you shake the bottle very well; we use more pigment than it needs to compensate for the fact that some of it drops out of solution...

    Anti Gravity Turned Chalices????

...unless of course they were then photographed upside down...! None the less, I've seen items like these before and they are for real; I've also seen some where the top has become too heavy and the stem has bent so that the top part droops down. I don't know if they were trained to bend in the...

    More Ebay stuff

As they're supplying a VAT invoice, the extra 17.5% goes to the government so they would gain nothing by increasing the price. They would fail to pass the money on at their own peril!

    Who's going to Sywell?

Sorry to take this off topic again (we'll have our Sales Manager Mark at Sywell doing his stain demos by the way) I think the answer to Barry's last comments is contained within the web address of the forum he has mentioned... I would guess that the forum is commercially sponsored and probably...

    Woodworking Exhibition

Hi Martin et al I'd be tempted to say there are enough shows in the calendar at the moment without any real need to add any more. It's not just the shows organised by outside parties (such as Ally Pally, Harrogate etc) but with in house shows most weekends there really doesn't seem to be room...

    Ebonizing Wood

Hi Gill The Ebonising Lacquer will work on any timber - it's a hardwearing tinted lacquer, it doesn't react with the wood, it covers it with a black lacquer. The finish is satin, as Chris says for a brighter shine use the Acrylic Gloss Lacquer over the top.

    Spraying water based lacquer

We do of course supply an Acrylic Lacquer which can be sprayed.. Meanwhile, if I could just clarify Jon's statement about water based lacquers being better for his lungs... there are certainly less/no fumes but it's still probably best not to inhale the overspray so suitable precautions need to...

    White non-abrasive pads

Hi Scrit There are many versions of these things available, I don't suppose ours is dramatically different from the others although I believe that our Grey NyWeb is finer than some (but not all) others. These items fit in very well with our range of products and was something we have been asked...

    White non-abrasive pads

Hi All Just over a year ago we asked for some guinea pigs to try out a white, non abrasive version of our NyWeb pads. The new pad was much thicker than our normal ones and we weren't sure if they would work as well. At the time, feedback was very mixed and not as positive as we wanted, so we...

Deep Black Shine - How Please?

Hi John Answering your original question, somewhat late (hey, I'm allowed some time off aren't I?), yes, the Ebonising Lacquer followed by Acrylic Gloss Lacquer should be suitable for the project if you decide to go back to your original idea. Preparation will be important here, and a good MDF...

    This will never happen again

Okay, I'll live up to my name... What about in 2106?

    Woodex 2006 exhibitors lsit

I've sent Barry a more comprehensive answer by pm, but in case anyone thinks I've ignored the question... I can only speak for ourselves and the decision was mainly financial. Attendance at this show (and to be fair, others too to an extent) has been decreasing for several years now and whilst...

    Woodex 2006 exhibitors lsit

Gill, I was speaking to Pete from SIP at Yandles last weekend, he gave me the impression that they would be at this show. Don't take this as gospel though, I'd recommend checking first. For clarification, the show is several miles outside of Leamington Spa, so would advise making sure you know...

    baby safe??

Hi Barry Whilst Food Safe Finish would be toy safe, it's not really suitable for use on toys so we wouldn't recommend it for that as it's not really hardwearing enough in our opinion.

    Yandles

We'll be there both days... but I'm not guaranteeing as early as 9! Look forward to seeing some of you there, midday around my spot is fine by me!

    baby safe??

Finish wise, you can use any of the following products from our range, all of which have been independently tested to EN-71: Finishing Oil Cellulose Sanding Sealer (non-aerosol version) Acrylic Sanding Sealer (both versions) Melamine Lacquer (non-aerosol version) Shellac Sanding Sealer Wood Wax...

    A tale of two waxes

As stated, the solvent used in Briwax Original is indeed toluene, although I've never known it to soften or damage a previously applied cellulose product. A variant was formulated several years ago, now (confusingly I think) called just 'Briwax' is based on a different solvent. This change was...

    Liberon Spirit Dyes

Hey, I don't mind talking about other people's products... For my own peace of mind I checked with Axminster and I think there has been a communication breakdown somewhere, and it's a little complicated so I'm not too surprised... The £5 charge for a special order replaces the normal postal...

    SECC Show this weekend

At the risk of stating the obvious... The exhibitors don't get any of the money you are referring to; travel is obvious, the SECC get the parking (no cut to the exhibitor) and the entrance fee goes to the organiser (nothing at all for the exhibitor). Plus, whatever your costs were in getting...

    SECC Show this weekend

Maybe I shouldn't get involved in this one, it's just the phrase 'ripped off' that I can't ignore... No, the point of shows surely is to be entertained and to have the opportunity to have a see, handle and even use the items you are looking for, all under one roof with the possibility of...
