Try using Fiddes or simerler maker of stains and polishes - GOLDEN OAK [ oil based ] and seal in with a shellac sanding sealer [ 2 - 3 coats] and then wax off with a nut brown wax. This will give you a nice "mellow" colour for your table. hth, K

there's some cowboys out there offering to do a chair for 3-400 quid, but you gets what you pay, the last polsterer we used was in Chipping NOrton and he does a real good job, but he is not cheap. PM me if you want further info, as the file is in Germany with his contact details. hth, k

well I started out many years ago to learn the art of French polishing with a restorer of antiques , then a coffin maker. Learned many tricks of colouring cheaper timbers to more exotic and thus dearer timbers - :? :? so, now I have in storagwe 1 , 6'3" x 2'0" bookcase with a tempory glass...

An old restorers trick is to dose the effected wood with pure turpentine. hth, k
